For someone who took the new exam, does the exam have more interpreting graphs than actually questions about bio? That’s what I’m getting after reading some of the posts.

@Zeppelin7 Not really. It’s a lot less-detail oriented than the years before, but you still have to know your stuff. In my opinion the MC is more like a biology-oriented, harder ACT Science section. The FRQ portion felt a lot like the old test to me.
Oh, and make sure you can read fast, because you’ll have to do a lot of that on test day.

Can those who took the AP Bio exam and the ACT post their AP score and ACT Science score?

Our teacher kept pushing the Campbell tests on us every week, so everybody I know resorted to using the easy notecards website. Just put Campbell biology test preparation (chapter number), and the test bank with answers will show up.

To trelite, I got a 4 on the ap bio exam, and a 30 on the act science section.

Yes I agree the exam was less detail oriented. I was expecting questions about specific stages of mitosis or about ecology, macromolecules, cell structures/organelles, etc. While there were a few questions about specific things like that, there were not nearly as many as I thought there would be. I finished but I had to work quickly because they do not give a great amount of time. Also, when it comes to the FRQs, I felt they were more general. Previous FRQs have asked to name specific stages of things and provide details or asked about body systems. The FRQs were not as harsh as I thought they would be last year though. There also wasn’t as much on plants as there has been in previous years at all.

Overall the test was not easy by any means, but it seemed like a watered down version of bio. It wasn’t like previous years where you had to spit out memorized answers. You had to apply basic bio concepts.

Would it be worthwhile to wait for the new Barron’s and/or CliffNotes review books since the new curriculum might be better covered in the new 2014 editions? The Barron’s wasn’t released until February last year and CliffNotes not until April (according to Amazon), so is it worth the wait or are the current editions sufficient enough to do well on the exam?

Also, does the revised Princeton Review edition do well in covering the information from the new syllabus or not?

I used a new review book so I am not entirely sure what is covered in the older ones. U could get by with using an older one because I mean, it will have all bio concepts and info that is covered in the bio class but I would use a newer one if u can because the distribution percentages of certain topics have changed so a newer one may be more beneficial. But if u absolutely don’t have access to a newer one, then an older one would be fine!

I’m really excited about AP Bio next year! The AP Bio teacher at my school was my freshman honors bio teacher and he’s really cool. I’m really good at memorizing things and explaining how things work so I think this will be a good class for me.

Anyone planning on taking a bio subject test? I’m self-studying to take the molecular biology one in November.

So quick question, I’m buying all my review materials now (official SAT guide, Princeton reviews for APUSH and AP Bio) and I was wondering if Princeton was really the best review book? And also, is there a big enough difference between the 2013 AP Bio Princeton review book and the 2014 one to spend a bit more on the 2014 one?

I’d honestly wait until the new Cliffsnotes or Barron’s came out. Normally I wouldn’t care about getting the absolutely newest version, but this is one saw where newer is better.

I suppose because of the changes? And thanks for the input.

What about Princeton Review? Because it’s coming out on December and cliffs is coming out till March, dunno about Barron’s though. Would Princeton Review be enough?

How does this new AP Biology compare with the SAT Biology M?

I got the 4th edition Barron’s. I’ll probably get another one that’s better updated as the exam approaches.

Does anyone know if the new 5 Steps to a 5 is good?

I heard it wasn’t that great.

Hey! What does everyone think of the class so far?

For me, it’s pretty rough. I have to read like a chapter a day. (excluding weekends) I would be failing, but all of our tests are curved at an 89, so I just have to beat half the class, and I have an A! :P

I had five steps to a five for AP World History and it was alright. I don’t know how the one for AP Bio is though.
