Official AP Comp. Govt. Study Thread

question: What is parallel Hierachy?

Absolutely no idea^
Never heard of it :(
And Google spews info on cardiovascular stuff when I try to Google it.

It's just a hunch, but the phrase "parallel hierarchy" reminds me of China's government and how each government entity has its own party equivalent.

that's dual role shiddy......i swear i read that term somewhere i'll find it hold on

found it......parallel hierachies existed in Russia similiar to dual role and it established a Communist shadow agency for every government agency

nvm shiddy u were rite it was china......im wrong

Ryan228 asked for some Vicente Fox Reforms.....think Republican Agenda: 1. Decentralization 2. Electoral Reform (women in legislature) 3. Rule of Law 4. Anti-Narcotics 5. Currently, immigration agreement with the USA

Question: Define Personalism and apply it to the mexican political system

I'm so screwed for this exam. We did the entire curriculum in 4 weeks and nothing the teacher taught us appears to be on the test. And damn it! If I had more study resources, I know I could get a 5!

I've never even heard of personalism... p.q Is that charisma? Like, with camarillas and all that?

not like charisma but like camarillas are exactly correct its not what you know its who you know

don't worry i have never heard of personalism either. and i had an excellent course...

does anybody know what rough percentage you need to get a 5 or 4?

i heard you need a 90 out of 120 for a 5 not sure what you need for a 4

It's probably in the mid 60s, usually. Providing one does well on the essays.

So. Tell me about the position of Supreme Leader in Iran.

supreme leader in Iran is the Faqih or the supreme interpreter of Sharia law hes commander in chief of the armed forces and he has broad interpretation powers over the majles through his weight in the guardian council

throw out some **** on nigeria because i didn't spend too much time on that......maybe start with some sources of legitimacy?

Obasanjo is trying to stabalize government by decreasing corruption(ie. prebendalism). Like most states, the government gains legitimacy if the economy is good. Obasanjo's reforms have been more successful than Abachas and Babangidas but Nigeria's per capita GDP is still low and they are obviously still a rentier state. The coinciding cleavages in the nation make it tough for a stable legitimate government. The government has also tried to expand the number of seats in the legislature to decrease conflict and cleavages. Nigeria is at a breaking point, will they have another coup? Or will the fourth stage finally be the one that prevails?

any predictions for the free response questions? Im scared because they redid the curriculum....they mite get overly theoretical

I took it last year, my suggestion is know Britian and France political systems very well. Most of the test revolved around those two. You can pretty much get away with general knowledge of China and Russia's government for the most part, you should know certain things that make them unique, like China's population size prevents quick ratification of bills, however China is effective in appropriating bills to committees that churn out the logistics of bills.. Stuff like that :)

just took the test - and just found this thread :) omg - I really, really, really screwed up. I self-studied, did not take it seriously enough...I think I dropped four mcs, free response oh dear oh dear...a couple of the questions I had NO IDEA. and how much are you supposed to write, I only wrote about a half page for each question...like, I didn't write it like an essay, no intro/conclusion, I just got straight into it and answered the question...and I was so confused, was I supposed to give an example if they didn't ask for it? oh, and I'm so stupid - I went through all the practice tests in my study guides and I was like, oh so they won't ask THOSE questions...and they asked the EXACT same questions! all those HOURS of study wasted...I don't even want to think about score curves...

okay, so that's it for my self-indulgent rant :) hope everybody else goes well...

Oh dear....
But I highly, highly, HIGHLY doubt they will mark you off for no intro/conclusion. On the AP English test, perhaps, but not here. Anyway, where do you live to ahve taken it already?

sydney australia...ach, still feeling bad. hey just wondering, are the AP tests the same the world over? they're not like the SATs are they, where the US test is different?
