**Official AP Comparative Government 2013 Thread**

@dmaster was X Normative or empirical?"

I think I bombed the MC and did fairly well on the FRQs

I don’t even know. I knew more than I thought I would, but I still screwed a couple up. The FRQs weren’t bad, though.

No clue what normative vs empirical statements are, lol. (Also, I was so tired that I’m pretty sure I wrote “North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement” instead of North AMERICAN Free Trade Agreement" somewhere. I was definitely not at my best today.)

Empirical statements are the factual, objective statements, and Normatives are subjective statement saying what things should be.

I completely bombed about 25% of the MCs, but found the FRQ real easy, easier than the American Gov FRQ

@HollowSunsets Awesome! That’s what I guessed. Thank you.

What were the sources of legitimacy for russian president?

I put the Constitution of 1993 and as a back-up I also put down free (but certainly not fair) elections.

OMG, what If I wrote Unity Party instead of United Party for the Russian question??!?!?

I screwed up and thought a certain ethnic group was behind the oil harassment in the Niger Delta

Did anyone put Quran for the supreme leader legitimacy. I mentioned velayat e faqih/ jurist’s guardianship as a backup. And yeah constitution of 1993 is what I put for russian president.

I put Sharia for supreme leader and how Iran is majority Shiite (just realized I spelled it s-h-i-t-t-e on the test, lol)

@thingschange Holy crap, I completely forgot about velayat e faqih. Hopefully Islam is a good enough answer.

Do you think it’s okay if I said that the Supreme Leader derives legitimacy from God, and then I explained about the theocracy and how the SL is a stand-in for the twelfth imam and knows best how to rule in accordance with Shari’a law?

Also, would I still get partial credit if I wrote Zapanistas instead of Zapatistas?

Thanks guys! My teacher didn’t teach us a lot of the terms on the test… I feel like if he’d taught us what he was supposed to, it would’ve been fairly straightforward.

I didn’t have any access to previous test MC’s like I did with American Gov so I was TOTALLY unprepared for the MCs

I thought i was underprepared for this test but i am pretty sure i passed it. the FRQ especially were easy

Planning to self study this for next year  Planning to use Ethel Wood’s book (it’s SOMEWHERE lost at home >< ), but I do need a good textbook; any recs? Also, any tips on the actual exam?

Ethel Woods is a cross between prep book and test book, it’s really all you need to get a high 5 - if you know it well, that is.

Woo, got a 5. My only 5.
