Didn't see one already made, so here it is. At my school, this class is a joke.

My school’s current AP Comp Sci teacher might not be teaching it next year for lack of demand.

I’m going to self study it for my senior year, I’ve heard of barron’s as a very good study tool, would that be enough to do well? I’ve also heard of using online schools but idk if it’s worth it. Also not sure about textbooks. Any advice?

I might do this online, still deciding :o
think this would be feasible during the summer?

I don’t know much about the AP itself, but I have some experience in Java so I am planning to self-study it. I hope to learn most of the material over the summer, so like Weeknd, I am also wondering the feasibility of learning over the summer.

Sigh, I don’t know if I should do this self-study or not.

I’m not the best at java, but I want to give it another shot, especially since both my parents are programmers.

But, I am most likely going to self-study it.

My friend gave a copy of Barron’s Computer Science Level A and AB.

Should I just invest in Computer Science Level A, too?

Does anyone know if Barron’s or Princeton Review makes a prep book for this AP for 2014?
I can only find barron’s for 2013.

The 2013 Barron’s book should be fine; there haven’t been any changes to the course or the exam for 2014.

I’m signed up for the class. At my school, the class is one semester bc Java Programming is a separate class and a prerequisite. Haha, I got screwed over by my counselor, found out Java was necessary, and now I’m hurriedly familiarizing myself with Java in two weeks. #highschoolconselorssuck

Hi i may be taking AP comp sci next year. Does anyone have any websites where I can learn Java so that I can do really well in the class/exam next year? What about any textbooks in general? Thanks so much…

Is Java pretty much the vast majority of AP comp sci? what else do you learn?

ap comp sci is all java and the only book you really need for the exam is the barron’s. Even though I only got a 4, my teacher was crap and this book kinda saved me. Good luck!

I am self-studying the AP Computer Science exam and I even have programming experience, but its in different programming languages (never touched Java before). I understand that programming experience would help me a lot, but it’s not in the Java programming language. How hard would it be to get a 4 or a 5 on the exam?

@Vanstorm9 Which programming language do you have experience with?

I am self studying APCS…I just finished gridworld and am reviewing.

Is the multiply choice easier than free response?

The first test in Barron’s,the diagnostic, is it freakishly easy? Everything seems really straightfoward which is weird since a lot of the Barron’s multiple choice questions have all kinds of tricks.

Also, does anyone else find Barron’s multiple choice questions at the end of each section really difficult? I mean, I think maybe I’m not concentrating sometimes but I read the code and my eyes glaze over and I’m like “■■■” and it takes me 10 minutes to run through what’s happening on paper…

lastly, does anyone have a strategy for the multiple choice? Do you run through the code on paper or do you just recongise certain aspects of code (like double for loops and 2D arrays => iterating through 2D array, or “mid” => binary search)? Do you read all preconditions/postconditions?

Thanks

@fr3ih3it ^^^YES. The end of chapter questions are insanely difficult compared to the diagnostics/practice exams.

I usually run through the code on paper, so I’ll create a variable table and go from there.

Ya I also found the mc at the end of the chapters really hard. I have done the mc for 2 chapters from barrons, and i am convinced that the questions are too difficult to be on the actual exam. Would it be a bad idea to just skip the mc questions at the end of the barron’s chapters.

My class has just started GridWorld. The only way in which I can get a 5 now is through self-studying. Most people in the past at my school failed the exam, with only a handful passing each year.

After AP Computer Science are any of you interested in forming a opensource type project for colleges. I’m talking ■■■■ like Napster. We become the next Sean Parker and Sean Fanning

So screwed. So unbelievably screwed. Teacher has been teaching the test wrong the entire year. Oh my god. So much material to learn.
