Based on all the practice we’ve done in class on MC, I would be lucky to get half of them right ._.
My varies so much it’s crazy . I got an 86 on a practice in school but then I got a 52 on one I did myself .
MC is easy for me…argument essays on the other hand…
How do they expect me to pull stuff out of my head like that and create a coherent essay out of it? I just can’t. Rhetorical analysis is fun and easy, and with synthesis at least you have sources. We’ve only done 1 argument essay in class this whole year and I got a 6 on it, which is my lowest essay grade this semester.
Do you guys have any tips for the argument essay?
This exam wasn’t revised, right…?
Is anyone actually studying for this exam?
@Kitsyxoxo You should make sure to try ones from the actual AP test. The ones in my Cliffsnotes prep book are harder than the AP ones. The AP ones are better written and more straightforward.
The one I did really poorly on was from Cliffs . The one I did well on was the course curriculum so hopefully that one was a better measure . I going to try to find every released exam . Has anyone purchased the released mc from the college board ? Ty for the advice @dsi411
@Kitsyxoxo - I found some College Board tests floating around the internet…College Board sells multiple choice questions?!
Apparently you can buy them from their online store ( hoping it’s not for teachers only ) and receive the full exams that they released for ap Lang . I’m going to check it out rn @glasshours
Just checked you can buy a pack of ten of the same exam for $42 (a tad pricy ) But the newest one they have is the 2007 one so idk if it is worth it . @glasshours
I’ve been scoring about 50% on mc, any tips on increasing my score?
What have you been using ? I usually do 20-30% better on the college board tests than the ones in my review book so I would try using those @Mathman97
I dunno actually, the only test I’ve taken was from my teacher
Also I dont have a review book, does it help?
Also does anyone know approximate percentages for a 3,4, or 5
And final question, how difficultly do they grade essays?
Is the argumentative essay graded significantly harder than the sat?
Here’s a tip for the multiple choice, read over the passage slowly until you understand it. Multiple times if you have to. Then look at the questions. They’ll be super easy to answer once you understand the meaning of the passage. That’s how I got 100% on one of my practice AP MC that we did in class (it was 3 passages, not 4, though).
Don’t read over the questions before reading the passage. There’s no need and then you’ll be focused on trying to find specific things rather than the overall meaning.
I don’t really annotate when I read but apparently that’s good to do. In my Cliffsnotes book it says you should also visualize the story as you read it. I do that and it really helps.
What are the unspoken important rules for the essays? Like tiny things you are never supposed to say or do? Or tiny things you NEED to do for a good score? My teacher hasn’t done any prep with us the whole year
Slow thread…
I think the only basis towards preventing yourself from getting a lower score is to have good syntax and as little grammatical errors as possible. Yes, all of us will be on a time constraint (three essays in two hours), and the AP test graders will consider that, but making sense in your sentences is probably the best you can do. If you have too many mistakes to the point that sentences are difficult to decipher, I’m assuming the graders will dock points.
My AP teacher really stressed that on the class. I would always get marked down for syntax errors, word choice, etc, so that would be the best thing to practice on for the essays.
@Mochis1 if we do things like unnecessary commas for example would they dock points or do you mean only if it becomes hard to read
@dsi411 I don’t think that the time constraint will allow you to do that on the MC…
Also, I’ve been doing a practice 2012 ap exam that’s available. Are the questions on that similar to the AP lang exam? If so, this test will be pretty easy…
Also any more practice tests that are available online?
