**OFFICIAL** AP Human Geography 2013 Thread

If I just self-study Barron’s only but know it thoroughly is there a strong chance of getting a 5 or should I study (or watch) something else also. And for the exam should I memorise the maps or just know how to interpret it.

Does anyone have any other advice? I’m beginning my review for the exam and I’m not sure what to focus on.

I’m taking the class right now. I feel the most important stuff is the models. Know most to all of the models, and that should be the majority of your studying. After that, focus on terms and vocabulary, such as GDP, carrying capacity, etc. And then, I suggest going through a textbook or a prep book in detail. That covers most of the stuff.

I reviewed through the Barron’s FRQs and found out that we must have a wide knowledge of different historical events related to colonialism etc. I am self-studying the APHG course and my school’s history lessons are not very diverse so is there any website that gives a list of necessary historical events for the exam.

Wait so would it be bad to study from the Barrons book?

No, Barron’s is a good prep book.

If I study with Barron’s and An Intro to HG by James Rubenstein, is that enough to do well on the exam? Or do I need to supplement with more material?

I’m self-studying APHG, and I’m using only Barron’s and PR. Will that be enough? Has anyone done this before and knows if will work?

Buuuuuuuump!

bumpity-bump! Someone answer please?!

Lets bump this back up!

I’ve started studying a little bit, reading through AP Barrons this week and taking notes. I have multiple exams so I don’t want to be cramming them all in April. After I review the chapters, I’ll take the diagnostic test and see which three or so I do the worst on then read them more extensively again. After that I’ll just keep reading any stuff I feel I need to check back up on, review some flashcards with the vocab, and take practice exams I suppose until the test day.

I have never felt more confident that I’ll get a 5 on any AP exam I’ve taken.

Are you taking it with a class? If you’re self studying, are the Barrons and Princeton your only prep books?

This is my first AP exam I’m going to take. I took the class last semester  but I have a prep book. Any helpful tips?

Nope! This is going to be my second AP, but the first (Euro) will have been taken around 3 days before, so I won’t be much help. But I’m self studying. Is there anything not in Princeton and Barrons that you learned in the class?

If I were to be honest, my teacher didn’t teach a single thing about APHUG! He just rambled on about how much he hates his wife.
So, everything I learned IS from Princeton haha. I guess I’m half self-studying…

Lol! Well, I guess we’re in the same boat!

Shout out to all people who are taking a class! Any advice? tips?

I’m taking a class and my teacher’s main advice was to know your vocab and study the models. There are usually free response questions about the models. I’ve notice that the most common questions on the practice AP tests have been about Industry, Political Geography, Agriculture, and LDCs vs. MDCs.

@mbleffish
So far I have I have noticed the chapter 1 in my textbook and class mentions Globalization while the Barrons doesn’t. May want to touch up on that…not sure if maybe Barrons mentions it another chapter or what.

We also went into much more detail with pollution and how there are different forms of it, different ways to combat it, etc. That was a short unit we did in a week or so in class, but we combined the unit test for that with agriculture and something else. I also looked it up and no FRQ questions have been made on the subject so it may not even be tested.

So I have found two good/decent links from Google regarding the models and theories.

https://teacher.ocps.net/michael.coleman/aphgeo/AP%20Review%20Geography%20Models%20pdf.pdf</a>
http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/docs/curriculum/socialstudies/rigorous-ap/geography/ap-models.pdf</a></p>

Are these just the main essential ones to know? The second link I thought had a little extra.

Also here is another site I’ve found with some pretty good info on it.

Kind of stinks AP HG isn’t as widely taken as other AP exams…so less stuff for it :c. Last year with AP USH I was just overwhelmed with stuff.

Just took a practice test in my review book. Got a 44 out of 100. I’m totally ready for this!
