***Official AP Language and Composition 2012-2013 Thread***

Do you guys remember the answer to the question on the first passage that was like, “The author regards reading as…”?

I put something about vital revelations. Was that right?

@Careful Yeah, I was confident about that one as others didn’t work.
Besides that though, overall, an easier exam. The argumentative was much different than the many I did before and was very difficult since responses will vary excessively. Synthesis and rhetorical were on the easy side. In fact, for the rhetorical, I thought there were too many rhetorical devices in play to use and could actually lose points for trying to address each one. As for the synthesis, if you argued against the topic, you are getting a 2-3/9. It didn’t state to pick a side, but to consider factors. Just putting that out there.

I also chose the answer with revelations.

thanks @Rob1995 @Niceboat @Catandsam i hope u all did well!

@getontarget can u give some examples of “the endless list of rhetorical analyis”. It will be an enlightening exprience!

There were 55 MC questions, not 52.

I’m panicking! Can i still get a 5 if I didn’t really answer the Synthesis essay question? I didn’t see a question, just a paragraph about monuments and that confused me…:(:(:(

does anybody remember the synthesis question word by word? I don’t remember seeing the prompt asking a question…

ahh. That’s what I was thinking. Some reason I thought there was 52

@schoolstresses. it went something like this: examine factors a group or society should consider to memolarize and when they do, how

@ackattack where was the question on tthe page??? Panicking…

it was on the frst page where it lists the 7 sources…
dont panic, they judge u on what u do well they know u are working nder pressure. I just hope u understand that this wasnt like other synthesis where u choose a side, here u had to agree to memorialise just WHEN and HOW. Somne correct me if im wrong

Yeah they asked about what factors agencies/organizations should consider regarding the memorializing itself AND the building of the memorial. I don’t know, it was a little confusing for me because they definitely asked for factors on TWO aspects (can’t remember the exact wording), but the two parts seemed relatively similar to me… Anyone else have that?

I don’t really remember there even being an argument at hand concerning the synthesis essay? Just asking for you to discuss the factors that one should consider before building monuments and dedicating memorials…

@schoolstressed: You can still get a 5 if you absolutely nail (8 or 9) the other two essays and miss no more than a couple MC questions.

i believe the 3rd prompt went something like “Discuss the factors an agency or group should consider before building a monument”

dont think i did well on the synthesis essay due to repetition and i had to bubble in 3 random answers due to lack of time. hopefully i can still get a 3 or better

Ok so at my school we had like 2 diferent versions. Most people seemed to have form O(i think) while others got form G(my form). To be completely honest, i thought form g was easir based on peoples reactions. The passages were simple and in recognized one from a practice test i’ve done b4. The most challenging part was the analyssi essay about colonial american society. Other than that, it was pretty chill compared to ones i’ve done previously.

@ Rob1995

Yeah 2 2-1/2 pages is the perfect amount. It would be a big mistake to do what Kimmylou did and write over 4 pages. Doing that would bore the reader and the writing would be sloppy and underdeveloped/unorganized.

Thanks everyone!!

But HONESTLY, subject tests are more important than AP scores right? I heard people can still get into good colleges without sending any AP scores …but to get into good colleges, you need really good SAT II scores

Yes. AP scores are for placement/credit. (AP classes are important though. Gpa wise and show you’re not a slacker). SAT Subject Scores are for admissions.

I think I must have misread the synthesis question…I wrote about how memorials were overall a positive thing so long as they didn’t disrespect history or the deceased. Do you think they’ll mark it really low for not addressing the question (1-2) or would they just take a point or two off? It was a decent essay otherwise.
