***Official AP US Government & Politics 13-14 Thread***

Barrons is fine, but not the best review book to study. Many of the review questions at the end of each chapter were based more on memory than critical thinking. The review outline is very detailed, but a lot of times, the author adds his own commentary instead of cutting to the chase. I agree that studying from Crash Course and doing the AP test questions are the best ways to study. You can also use your own notes/ review packet or study from old practice tests in class.

Whatttttttttttt is a good way to memorize the amendments?

@kwassakwassa Honestly I just kept repeating them to myself until I finally remembered them.

Agreed. After the Bill of Rights and the Prohibition Amendments, they can all kind of blur together. Especially in the 20s.

what about all the court cases and differentiating between like the types of federalisms (throughout dif time periods)?

@College123College I try grouping court cases by amendments and for federalism, I try associating presidents with different types of federalism.

I’m feeling pretty good about this exam… I got a 53/60 on MC, and I’ve only read through Crash Course once. I recommend it.

I know the FRQ plays a huge part, but what’s the average MC score for a 5?

@Girofalcon‌ for MC score out of 60.
To get a 5, ideally you should aim for 50+ so like 50-55. If you get 55+ I applaud you for not making dumb mistakes (this happens when you get to the zenith of the scale).
As for average score, I don’t know the exact statistic but I assume its around 45-50. 45 is kind of pushing it though, you would need incredible FRE scores to pull a 5 of.
So guys we have 11-12 days left, how are you guys feeling.

I suggest you guys take the 1999 released AP Exam, as it is the best practice test you have access too (Free). I took it and scored 54/60 multiple choice. I am just scared that when the FRQ’s appear, I will not know anything about one of them and bomb it and get a 4. LOL

Well Happy Studying!
Lets try to keep this Thread Alive till the exam is over!

Yea the free response questions are gonna destroy me because they depend on pure memorization.
Basic tip on frqs from my teacher: In a timely fashion, write down everything that’s related and correct without contradicting yourself.

Good Advice DaneBrick. Hopefully we all get 5s.
Have you taken the 1999 released test?

I will keep my eyes peeled too.

Is there Crash Course online anywhere?

@Firemeter‌ I tried to find it throughout months but I can’t find it anywhere…
so I guess they do not provide USGP for crash course…

Oh and simple question to everyone! What does ‘Raiding’ in politics?
it was on the answer list and I can’t find the definition :(

Just starting my AP study grind today. All day until Tuesday morning. I currently have Barons review and flashcards. Should i jsut read through and highlight then outline? Also is the REA Crash Course a good supplement to the barons (after i finish it). Any online practice tests that someone can link me to? (Online graded would help too) Thank you!
