Congrats to everybody!

LOL ... post above me... ufstudent tried to make himself look better but forgot to change accounts... LOL

um...i only have one account..i wasnt trying to make myself(..HERself) look better, i didnt want to say my score but now that i see other people had similar scores, i decided to say it. so um...LOL

ufstudent....were you quoting someone else besides you in post number 100 of this thread(4 posts above this one)??...if you were next time please put quotation marks around your quote and please attribute it to a person...that way other people can actually tell it is in fact a quote...and not some weird monologue....

sigh...communicating intentions through message boards is tough sometimes....

So the Writing Section has no affect on your composite score?
Also I heard that the score given to you on the sheet is just relative to how you did against the whole country and the actual score number can be different when the score report is mailed to you. Any truth to this?

is a 25 good? or bad?...I am going to take it in June...but I just wanted to know.
A 25 is in the 80 percentile.

82%

It depends on your GPA, the schools you want to apply for, and scholarships.

I want to make my resume more competitive, so I am shooting for a 27. Also, if I score high enough in certain areas, I can be exempt from some freshmen classes.

I have a 3.9 and a 25 ACT

yes i was quoting someone....i wouldn't put myself in third person then jump back to first ;) (not trying to be smart)
also i posted this maybe twice, asking why isnt there a quote link anymore, but im under the presumption that no one knows.

Composite: 34!
English: 33
Math: 31 (I was a little surprised I didn't do better on this section)
Reading: 36
Science: 34

My essay score wasn't up yet, but I'm sure I did fine.

First and last time with the ACT. Done with this test, now I have to worry about the SAT scores!

jlo11...as to score improvements, I got a 26 or 27 sophomore year. I was a bit happier with this year's score!!!

Hey, everyone. New at this site.... just took the ACT on April 8th, and I made a 27. I'm wanting to get a 30-32, atleast, and I was wondering if this was common or possible? The 27 was my first time taking the test, but to be honest I'm extremely disappionted. I'm hoping to get into Vanderbilt, and receive atleast a 29 on the first time. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows how possible/easy/hard it would be to improve those 3-5 pts.

Composite: 27 (ugh!)
English: 29 (could be a few pts higher, atleast)
Math: 23 (Lowest scores on 4 retired tests was a 28! Don't know what happened)
Reading: 29 (same as on practices, I'm slightly pleased to be honest)
Science: 26 (A little disappionted, lowest on a practice was a 32 I think..)

Oh, forgot to add: 3.9667 GPA, hopefully salitatorian. Advanced classes, hoping to improve... advice/help is needed.

Also, I only have two more times to take the test if I want to apply for early acceptance for Vandy, and b/c I'm in Gov. School for the summer, I might not get the shot at the June test, so that's potentially only one more testing oppertunity, but hopefully two.

how soon after do they mail it cause i definently did not recieve my score yet in the mail

VandyHopeful:

The ACT isn't an IQ test. Rather, it's based a lot on subject material you'd learn in highschool, so there is almost always room for improvement if you're willing to put in the effort.

I think the general consensus is that, at the upper limits of the test (30+), as you raise your score one point on the test, it progressively becomes much harder to raise it another point. (34+ is a killer I hear)

Grab some good prep books. I had a 23 Math on my first ACT practice test. I skimmed through the AMSCO ACT Math&Science book, just refreshing on topics I was unsure about, and consistently scored 28-30s after that on practices. It's a good refresher, and that seems to be your low point, at least on that specific test. Some of the other good prep books like Princeton Review might help bring your other subject areas up the point or two that you need.

Thanks a lot. I keep hearing reference to the AMSCO ACT book, and I've heard nothing but good things. I'm definatly going to get that. I'll google it and find out how to. Thanks so much, again.

Finally got them...
English 34 +4
Math 32 -3
Reading 31 +2
Science 26 -2
Composite 31 (same as before)

Crazy.

I can only imagine how you feel, and I know success is in your own eyes, but that is seriously a respectable and good score. One I definatly want. If you were to take it again at all, I would just try and familiarize myself a little more with science and come up with a good strategy time wise etc. Congrats, and good luck with future testing!!

I can't imagine what I missed on the Math section. My Algebra subscore was only 14! I thought I was in the running for a perfect 36 in math :(

You know that happens a lot. I know that some of the Calculus AB or even BC, as well as the Pre Calc students typically do the worst on Elementary & Intermediate Algebra.. it's just been so long since you did it. Just out of curiosity, what math are you in, and what did you do to prepare? I really need an improvement in my math score.

And I'm not sure if this will make you feel better, but the April Math was the hardest given this year, so I definatly wouldn't feel bad about that. If your consistent with the way you did this time, and took the test again with a more normal difficulty math section, I would expect an improvement in Composite by atleast a point.
