Comment: General statements in your essay were well supported with specific reasons, examples, and details. Some varied sentence structuresand precise word choice added clarity and interest to your writing.

That comment isn't very helpful to me. I would have prefered some constructive criticism rather than praise so I could know what I need to improve on.

yeoooowww that hurts. Oh well. I don't feel like taking this **** again.

It's hard to believe that my essay was worse than 96% of the country who took the test. The essays I wrote in English class were always scored as straight A's (Granted, I had much longer to complete them, but still...) Being in the upper 99% percentile on the English yet only the 04% percentile on the Writing just seems off.

Perhaps it really is about length. I think my essay was only about 1.5 pages long. I was really aiming at quality, not length. It was definitely grammatically correct, since that's my strong point. I made a concerted effort to use varied word choice, good composition of the paragraphs (main idea, supporting detail, closing thought), good introduction, and appropriate and varied transitions. The conclusion wasn't that spectacular (low on time), but it was ample. I'm stumped over the score honestly.

You get a 4 or 5 or something? I think a lot of it is on length. I wrote, I think 2.25 pages, and got a 9, whereas other people said they wrote 3 or so and got 10, 11, 12.

I got a 10 on my essay... I'm fairly happy (it seems a lot of people got really screwed over on the essay), but I have to say, I was hoping for at least an 11 since I thought my ACT essay was much better than my SAT essay, which I got a 12 on.

Comments on Your Essay: Your essay effectively supported general statements with specific reasons, examples, and details. The logical sequence of ideas in your essay fit its persuasive purpose well.

I'm pretty ecstatic, although I really didn't expect a 12. My essay was relatively long (don't remember the exact number, I want to say 3.5), but I thought my examples were weak. Just from other peoples' responses, it seems as if length has a bit to do with it.

Also, write what they want to hear.

I have to agree with the idea that the longer the essay the better. I wrote 1.5-2, and got a 6 :(... I make straight A's on all essays in school, made a 31 Composite and a 34 in English. I am sure that my grammar was 99% correct throughout the essay, and I felt that I had decent points....... guess not.

if you take it more than once...can you mix and match the highest scores?

Does anyone else find it odd that they do best on Science when they think they did worse? About 5 of my friends who took the Feb. 11th thought that, and now I see that on the April 8th scores above. I thought I did way better on English and Math. But I retook it on the 26th, and I think I did WAY better.

which test date is that from?

The above results are from April 8th.

I think I've sent my horrible ACT score from April...does anyone know if i can cancel it now? or do colleges look at your scores and take the highest one like they do for SAT?

april was the first time i took the act. i wanted to get atleast a thirty. i came so close too.

29 composite
31 english
29 math
22 reading (i dont know what happened here)
32 science

i was so disappointed at my reading score. i think its because naturally i am a slow reader, but i know i can do better. i'm definately going to retake the test in june. i think i did pretty well considering this was my first time and i never took any preparation courses.

Don't worry, Nothin, I got a 29 the first time I took it also (and if it makes you feel any better, I got a 23 in the science, which isn't much better than your 22 in the reading).... In April, I got a 32 (26 in the science; science raped me again)... Raising your score one point will be easy; I raised it three with minimal prep.

Another disappointment to my louzy 31...I got a nine again on the essay.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone on here who received a high score on the Essay who wrote less than 2 pages?

So far i've read of four people with 29-34 composites and high English scores who were only given a 4-6 score on the Essay. All share one common trait: they only wrote 1-2 (high quality) pages on the Essay.

when you say 4-6 do you mean out of 12?
