Official Barnard 2012 Transfer Thread

@crocodiles is Barnard your first choice I saw your post in the nyu thread tgat yoh recejved an acceptance to gallatin this morning.

i don’t have a first choice at the moment. i’m waiting until i actually receive all decisions before i decide which will be my top. i’m trying to not think about it too much, as the next few weeks are going to be stressful on their own (classes arent over yet so i have class exams next week, then finals and decisions, oh my!) it’s going to be a looong 2 weeks. i figure the less i think about it, the better i’ll be able to focus on what i can actually control. and, since i’m applying as a junior transfer, i’m totally unsure of how my application is going to be evaluated (i’ve been told it is much harder for juniors to get accepted as transfer - does anyone know if this has any truth to it?)

that being said, gallatin’s credit analysis implies that they are not accepting an entire semester’s worth of credit, which - if correct - is pretty much a deal breaker. AND barnard has an awesome polisci department! moderately relevant side-note: for one of my classes i had to read sheri berman’s the primacy of politics and then critique it. it would be so so so much cooler to actually get to sit down and discuss it with her (and have her attack my counterarguments).

forgive my tendency to ramble: bottom line - i have no top choice; i still need to hear back from several schools.

update: decisions are out! got my acceptance via express mail this morning!

@crocodiles

congratulations!
…wondering what state you’re in, where you received your acceptance? From west coast-may take awhile via mail to arrive.

@crocodiles

Congratulations!!! when was ur application completed? I’m just wondering if Barnard takes a rolling policy?!

Congratulations!!

Congratulations! Yeah, where are you from? And if you don’t mind me asking…what were your stats?

my home address is in new york (state), so that might explain why i - my parents, actually - got it so fast. i was totally surprised to hear because when i called barnard earlier this week, i was told everything wouldn’t be mailed out until the 15th as they were still finalizing things.

stats:applied for junior transfer
college gpa: 3.85 at top ranked LAC
sat i: 2150
act: 32
hs ranking: 2/160ish
hs gpa: not entirely sure but unweighted was around a 97-98 (weighted never released to students)
no hooks

oh, and i submitted my application the last possible day (and it wasn’t downloaded until the 16th). guess i just got lucky!

Wow those are some pretty impressive stats! Makes me a little nervous haha.
Again, sorry if I’m being a little intrusive, but did you apply for financial aid by any chance?

crocodiles: That’s good to hear. I’m still waiting though. so nervous!

coolchick: i didn’t apply for finaid. having been denied aid at my current school i figured there’d be no way i’d get anything.

the letter was dated may 4, in case anyone was wondering. also, the whole thing about not guaranteeing housing is real: the letter said something to the effect of “the faster you send in your deposit, the faster we can try to find a room for you.” the reslife website also says that rooms are less likely to be given for fall transfers so, thats very concerning. there is also no set deadline for my decision. maybe it’s all online - i tried logging on with the ID they provided but i kept getting error messages telling me my ID had already been used to rsvp…whatever that means.

i hope you guys all find out soon and receive good news!! the snail mail element really does add a degree of surprise that causes more anxiety than anything else.

@crocodiles
could you access your deposit page on “barnard accepted” with your admissions ID?
I wasn’t sure if that portal was valid for accepted transfer students. If it is, I tried mine and it didn’t work…which means i got rejected?

nyccali: no, the portal doesn’t let me in…but according to the acceptance letter it is supposed to be valid. i guess it’s not active yet. i’m calling tomorrow.

Man, they really need to build a couple of new dormitories.

@crocodiles
Thanks so much for your reply…you have no idea the weight you’ve lifted off from me. An update on your ability to access the Portal would be greatly appreciated!

@nyccali
no problem! i just called and was told that they are still in the process of finalizing things (not sure if this means the portal itself or decisions) and the portal won’t be up and running until later in the week.

My daughter just received her acceptance posted to her at her current LAC in MA. Letter is dated May 4. Barnard is her first choice and she’s taking it…not waiting to hear from the others.

hello everyone! i’m also waiting for an admission decision.

@crocodiles: do you live upstate? i, too, am a new yorker but have not yet received anything. i’m worried that this can only mean rejection on my end.

@collingwood: i ran to the mailroom as soon as i read your post. no luck :frowning: did your daughter request for her decision to be sent to her school? i can’t remember if that was an option. the reason why i ask is because i anticipate traveling back home friday night and am worried that my letter (if i ever get one; may it be good or bad) will be mailed to my campus instead of my home address.

@howgoesit
no, i live on long island (suffolk county). also, i obviously can’t speak for collingwood, but i’m pretty sure the only way a decision would be mailed to your college address is if it is the mailing address you provided on the common app. isn’t there a space where you can provide a mailing address if it differs from your home address?

I think she put the dates she would be able to receive mail at her college on her application. Also, her home address is Vancouver, Canada, so they may have sent it to the college because it’s so much closer to NY. We were surprised. We expected it would be mailed home.
At least you know that the decisions started to be mailed on Friday…her letter said there were @ 80 accepted. So, hang tight. There is surely lots of good news to come.
By the way, her stats were similar to @crocodiles, with some additional ec’s.
Good luck to the rest of you!
