General Comments:
Uhh. Due to rejection from incomplete application, I’m not sure what to say, really! Disappointing, since I really thought my supplementary essays were great.</p>

<p>My D has a priority mail package/letter from Barnard waiting for her. I assume it means she has been accepted. We are in NC. I will post stats when I know for sure that she has been accepted.</p>

  • Weaknesses: Test Scores
  • Why you think you were accepted: I was freaking out with other rejections/waitlists, so this is a complete shock.
    </code></pre>

<p>General Comments:
I’m so excited and cannot wait to meet everyone. Feel free to PM me if anyone wants to talk. For everyone waitlisted/denied, I’m sure you’ll be happy somewhere else and will be successful wherever life takes you. I believe everything happens for a reason, so don’t lose hope.</p>

<p>I didn’t get a letter/package in the mail today and I live quite close to Barnard… do you think this is a bad sign, seeing as the acceptances were priority mailed and people much farther away from Barnard than me are receiving them today? :frowning: :(</p>

<p>Decision: Rejected</p>

<p>Objective:[ul]
[<em>] SAT I (breakdown): 2160 (730m, 720r, 710w)

<p>Reflection[ul]
[<em>] Strengths: Course load, Extracurriculars
[</em>] Weaknesses: Grades. Wow… my grades are horrendous compared to all of my other stats.
[<em>] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I know that my grades are bad, but I honestly have no idea. I thought I was a great applicant. I also showed sooo much interest. I visited twice and interviewed. :frowning:
[</em>] Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted(NYU, GWU, PSU, BU), Waitlisted (Northwestern, BC, Vassar), Rejected (Penn, Barnard)
[/ul]
General Comments: It was my number one. I am sooo upset. But then again, I have an awesome number two. NYU 2015  I guess that’s the way it goes.</p>

<p>Reeeeejected</p>

<p>STATS
GPA: 96W
Rank: doesn’t rank
SAT I: 2140
SAT II: 730 USH, 770 Lit
ACT: 34
Other Stats: </p>

<p>SUBJECTIVE:
Common Application Essays: Good, I thought. Proofread by a lot of people.
Barnard Essays: Could have been more out of the box maybe.
EC’s: Lots of leadership + community service.
Teacher Rec’s: Good
Counselor Rec’s: He really likes me.
Major Awards: None
Hook (if any): None</p>

<p>LOCATION
State or Country: NY
School Type: Competitive public
Ethnicity: White</p>

<p>OTHER FACTORS:
General Comments & reflections: Disappointed, of course, but I don’t think in reality that I ever would have gone. A combination of price + not the ‘traditional’ college experience but it still would have been amazing to get in. However, I’m glad that my spot was taken by someone who hopefully WILL go and have an amaaaaazing four years. Congrats, everyone!</p>

<p>Decision: Rejected, rejected, and rejected.</p>

<p>Objective:</p>

<pre><code>* SAT I (breakdown): N/A

  • ACT: 27 (Reading: 33; Math: 23)
  • SAT II: N/A
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7 (UW) 4.1 (W)
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):
  • AP (place score in parenthesis): AP English Language (4), AP Psych (4)
  • IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
  • Senior Year Course Load: AP English Lit, Honors Trig, AP Euro, AP Enviro. Sci., Honors Spanish IV
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): N/A
    </code></pre>

<p>Subjective:</p>

<pre><code>* Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Theater, I started my own literary magazine, NHS, Peer Helper, Teen Counselor, and Editor for a writing group

  • Job/Work Experience: N/A
  • Volunteer/Community service: service: (I have a ton of hours) I started my own environmental group, NHS, Teen Counseling, Nursing Home, and a family member’s non-profit organization
  • Summer Activities: My environmental group.
  • Essays: I thought they were really good.
  • Teacher Recommendation: Great. I sent five (overkill), only four were processed.
  • Counselor Rec: Awesome! She was really sweet about me. This didn’t process either.
  • Additional Rec: I sent three additional letters. None of them were processed.
  • Interview: Yep. It actually went really well.
    </code></pre>

<p>Other</p>

<pre><code>* State (if domestic applicant): GA

  • Country (if international applicant):
  • School Type: Public
  • Ethnicity: Black
  • Gender: Female
  • Income Bracket: Low
  • Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM
    </code></pre>

<p>Reflection</p>

<pre><code>* Strengths: Extras, volunteering, and (or so I thought) my essays

  • Weaknesses: ACT scores. I was only able to take it once, but I thought I would make up for with my essays, my extras, and my extreme interest.
  • Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Maybe it’s because my things still didn’t process. I mean I was told it was complete, but the tracking system still draws a blank. And you know what? Maybe, they just couldn’t look past my low ACT score. I was hoping they could.
  • Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted (NYU, GWU, UGA, and BU) and Rejected (Barnard)
    </code></pre>

<p>General Comments: This was the school I would have dropped everything to go to. Amazing writing program (<333), ideal location, and focused students. It hurts a lot. I think it stings even more than it would if I didn’t go through what I did (see thread: ‘A Little Trouble Here’), but who am I kidding? It would still hurt.</p>

[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[</em>] Strengths: Overall standardized test scores, my essays were pretty good
[<em>] Weaknesses: Rank, ECs
[</em>] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I don’t think anything about my application was spectacular.
[li] Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: Accepted (NYU, GWU, American, UT-Austin, Elon, Texas A&M, St. Edwards)[/li][/ul]General Comments: First rejection, so that kind of hurts, not to mention the fact that the letter seemed rather kurt and frank when I would have appreciated flowery and apologetic. Ah well, c’est la vie!</p>

  • Weaknesses: essays maybe? not enough ecs? idk

Major Awards: JROTC Award
Hook (if any): very diverse. I’ve lived in such a variety of places and been to a variety of high schools in each one of my high school years: Freshman year [All-girls private school, Toronto], Sophomore [Home-schooling, Toronto], Junior [small public school, Houston], Senior [large public school, Houston]</p>

<p>LOCATION

Ethnicity: south asian-- but on my transcript, for some reason, it says that I’m black. NO LIE. </p>

<p>OTHER FACTORS:
General Comments & reflections: Though it wasn’t my first choice, I was really looking forward to getting accepted because it was like my 2nd/3rd-ish choice. I felt so melancholic after i saw that small envelope in my mailbox… I instantly knew I had been rejected… What a horrible feeling!
But oh, well. I got rejected for a reason… So, I guess it is all good. for now. i think. =/</p>

<p>Accepted but I’m too lazy/bitter about the FA package to fill out another one of these damn forms. Stalk the Smith/Swat/Vassar/Wellesley forums if you’re really interested.</p>

<p>But looking at the people who got in makes it feel like such an honor to be among them  I won’t be at Barnard next year but I wish the best of luck to the wonderful women who will.</p>

I’m very happy about my acceptance, but my fingers are crossed for the Ivy decisions coming out in two days!</p>

<p>I’m in! Trying to decide between NYU and Barnard! So different but both are wonderful!</p>

<p>from tennessee  by the way</p>

<p>also, those who were rejected-I’m so sorry…but, your stats are amazing and I’m sure you’ll get into amazing colleges and have a great time. You are all so talented and unique and any college will be lucky to have you :)</p>

<p>accepted! but my stats suck:</p>

<p>Objective:
SAT I: did not send

ACT: 30
Rank: school does not rank
AP: 4 chem, 5 Japanese
Senior Year Course Load: 3 APs, honors for everything else
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): none</p>

<p>Subjective:
Essays: my common app essay was about bringing two very different cultures, Japan and the US, together. I talked about my position on WWII, how I understand both sides and everyone has a story to tell. I poured my heart out on the supplemental essays. Wrote about my struggles with soccer, a sport I played my whole life, and how a coach told me I was not good enough. Also talked more about my cultural background. I thought my essays really reflected who I am and was pleased with the outcome.
ECs: soccer 3 years, NHS, Red Cross Club 3 years-raised over $1000 for the Haiti earthquake relief fund, Model UN 4 years, volunteer at a hospital 2 years, volunteer at a nature center 1 year, a bunch of cultural volunteering, worked as a referee 4 years, ESL tutor 3 years, and a pharmacy 1 year

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Biochemistry
State (if domestic applicant): Jersey
School Type: public
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: somewhere around $200,000-$250,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): This is very weird but I didn’t get to do an interview and I wanted to show my humorous side which was not reflected in my application, so I sent a foldable chair with a note saying “If Barnard does not have a seat for me in the class of 2015, I am willing to bring my own.” Guess that’s what got them? haha
Reflection
Strengths: Essays, ECs
Weaknesses: GPA, test scores</p>

<p>General Comments:
I’m so surprised this happened. I got rejected from NYU, which was a low match for me according to my counselor. Thank goodness Barnard looks at the individual applicant on a personal level rather than just numbers, which is why I got in. I’m still in shock that I got into such a competitive school, but I’m stuck between Barnard and another school I really love :/</p>
