Barnard Essays: discussed love for literature and how Barnard’s curriculum would allow me to pursue that love further and investigate other works, talked about Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s conquest to end the religious domination of women and how i would bring her to my synagogue (reform) and talk with her about religion and see how she views women from that stance in religion, as women are more active participants in my synagogue than they are in islam. talked about areas in which i am unafraid - pursuing a relationship with my egg donor, who i know very well now, and photography of very poor areas in asia that some people are afraid to see and capture. final essay i talked about growing up in an agricultural community and how living on a farm made me want to advocate for fresh produce - worked with organizations to provide healthy food for under-privileged families in oakland, ca.

General Comments & reflections: i think that i have a pretty good shot at barnard for the class of 2015 - but, we can’t all be too sure. i feel like the school is a good fit for me, and if it is legitimately, then i’ll get accepted. if not, then it’s not, and i’ll find a school that i like and it’ll all be okay. hoping for the best though :)

^ SF! I used to live in a busy Asian-washed suburb near there. I miss SF weather like a bear misses sleep.

@mammamia, Oh bravissimo for the chair hook. I laughed so hard that my mom stopped watching her Korean drama to look at me funny. It’ll be an honor to attend college with you (:.

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted!

yeah SF is amazing – dont know what im gonna do when i go to college…

we just got a skinny letter/envelope. does that mean rejected?

Congratulations to all of you that got in!!! Barnard is just fabulous & maybe you will accept the offer of admission and join the other wonderful ladies out there :). Life awaits :).

EC’s: Future Problem Solving Program, local museum docent, volunteer at the library, many arts related activities,
Teacher Rec’s: One was from my French teacher who I went to France with and the other was from an English teacher who could never tell my friend and I apart so I probably should not have chosen her.

Major Awards: National Merit Finalist
Hook (if any): First generation college student

LOCATION
State or Country: Florida
School Type: Public

OTHER FACTORS:
General Comments & reflections: I’m pretty sad right now. I can’t commit to waiting for Barnard without knowing the financial aid situation. Plus, National Merit wants to know my first choice college for a scholarship by April 7th. I got a pretty good offer from NYU, but I really really wanted to go to Barnard.

Need to know if Priority envelope is definitely admission acceptance. DD is having a sleep over upstairs with 5 girlfriends. Barnard is her first choice. What a way to celebrate, but what a spring brea party killer if not…

^Hello! I am 99% sure it is. During ED, accepted students got the priority mail envelopes and the deferred/rejected students were sent the decisions via regular mail.
I checked past threads-- looks like it’s the same for RD. I was accepted RD and received the acceptance in the priority envelope too. : )

Why, are you standing there holding the envelope and listening to your daughter upstairs? Haha. Good luck!

Is it a fat envelope? If it is, take it upstairs. All of the kids who say they have been rejected or waitlisted seem to have skinny envelopes.

rejected but I expected it, so i’m okay…

I’ve loved talking to everyone during this whole process! you are all so talented, intelligent, unique, etc etc and for those who were accepted, congrats!! and to those who weren’t, you’ll do great wherever you decide to go Good luck everyone!

Yikes I’m so nervous out in ca. I feel like it’s a bad sign that I didn’t receive it today… Though wellesley’s took a full week to get to me.

@ Calmom - I took the fat envelope upstairs. Asked the girls, if they wanted some lunch (they just finished bagels and cup of noodles - kinda like college). Then I tossed the envelope and walked back downstairs and heard a chorus of screams!! Now that is the way to get your first choice college decision…surrounded by your girls!

Waitlisted

I hate this

@shay33 - congrats at your acceptance. I have been watching the Barnard board for a long time and saw you posted frequently. I am extremely happy for you.

BTW, those girls are so loud I don’t have to stand and listen. 17 yr old girls on spring break are not a quiet bunch.

Hang in there, goldandgreen! I was accepted off the waitlist at Barnard (24 years ago–uggh!) and was given amazing FA. Ironically, it was NYU that was to be my school if Barnard had not accepted me. Show interest, submit another awesome rec, write to them regarding how you hope to participate in activities at Barnard etc. if it is your first choice. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

lorrainedelis- I’m so amazed at your positivity around these forums; I don’t think I could be as strong as you are were I in your position. You congratulate others wholeheartedly and support those who have gotten bad news. Good luck to you, even though you won’t be joining the Barnard class. ) :

Mommie dearest- thank you! Haha, I am definitely on CC too much. Now I’m paranoid for four years from now… where the words of my 17 year old, nervous, excited self will still be on CC for everyone to read… : )
And congrats to your daughter! That experience and feeling must be awesome. I was with my friend when she got her Barnard letter, too.
