My D is now a Barnard woman!!! Priority mail arrived this afternoon - Texas. Tracking ID = Application ID = Barnard ID. Best wishes to everyone.

@cheiri I remember getting an email that said we might not hear by the 15th, and if we don’t hear by the 19th we can call to find out whether we got in, best of luck to you!

I’m in MA. I have never heard of a school not informing people by the deadline. But then, most don’t do it only by mail. This has been really stressful for my daughter and it really didn’t need to be. The early action schools to which she applied have been prompt and sent her an email.

The big worry here is Barnard never emailed a tracking number, which you guys have been talking about. We can see on the Common Application that Barnard downloaded everything from them, that it shows up as Early Decision, etc. And I’ve asked them questions in Admissions and gotten a response. But they never emailed after getting the application, saying they got it and giving a tracking number. Now I’m worried something went wrong on their end. I don’t really want my kid in NYC anyway, but this was her dream school and I feel bad for her that she has to wonder until at least Monday whether or not they somehow downloaded her whole application and somehow lost it anyway…? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

oops, I meant she has emailed them questions and gotten responses before. But no tracking #.

And harryDpotter says they emailed her (presumably everyone?) in a mass emailing saying their responses might be late… my daughter has not gotten any email from Barnard, only responses to her questions. I think they goofed up.

ReluctantYankee: Is she sure the teacher recommendations and required test scores were all sent in by the ED deadline?

Congrats to the young women who are Barnard bound in 2017. My daughter is just finishing up her first term and loving everything about Barnard. I’m really impressed with the school, the connections she is making, and the type of education she is receiving.

The Common App shows they’ve been downloaded by the school, yes.

It’s frustrating - a rejection was something she was prepared for, but not them losing her application, which is what I really suspect happened. We’ll see if they answer tomorrow.

I also wonder what obligation we are under if they do respond with an acceptance but past 12/15.

Has your daughter checked to make sure the emails weren’t noted as spam? Verified her email address is correct? I think it’s time to contact the admission office to inquire. My D had applied RD last year, but I think she got that tracking number they are talking about pretty quickly after submitting materials.

ReluctantYankee: I’m sympathetic to you and your daughter’s frustrations, but keep in mind that Barnard has repeatedly said they would report back to everyone by mid-December, they just use the 15th as a general guideline. A lot of schools respond earlier/later than the date on their website. Many applicants did not get their tracking number until they explicitly asked their admissions rep for it. It’s a small college and the admissions office is run by human beings (who make mistakes). My advice: sit back and wait. That’s all you can do. Some girls heard back on the 16th last year so I’m confident you’ll get a response.

@ ReluctantYankee
On Monday, have your college guidance counselor put a phone call in to your Barnard regional rep. Not hearing is one thing, but not having a number indicates that something is wrong. If her application was complete she should have gotten a number from Barnard by now. I would not sit tight and wait if this is your daughter’s dream school. I know several applicants at various different schools (small LAC like Wesleyan and big state school like Michigan Ann Arbor) where snafus just like this happened. Each one was resolved by the regional rep and guidance counselor.

@ReluctantYankee I didn’t receive a tracking number either, or any of the other emails from Barnard that other students who applied received. I emailed the school about the tracking number about two weeks ago though, and they sent me one right away. I think that the school has been having trouble with their emailing lists lately.

Even though I did not get the majority of the emails I did receive my acceptance package in the mail on Friday. I would call Barnard on Monday but don’t give up hope that this is just a technological error. Good luck! :)

The BWOG published an article about the Barnard ED results. Here are some of the highlights:
Congratulations to the Class of 2017, who now await their decision by snail-mail only. Believe it or not, future first-years, that part might be easier than using eBear.

Statement from Director of Media Relations Sun Min, below:

For the Class of 2017, Barnard received 599 early decision applications, a 6.6% increase from last year when we received 562.
This year’s number represents a 53% increase from just three years ago when we received 392 early applications.
Notably, this year’s applicant pool was the most diverse–including ethnic, geographic and schools–in the College’s history. There were many schools from which the College had never previously received applications, and we received a record number of early applicants from international students.

So, I am a high school student and I applied ED. I checked the portal on wednesday night and this is the message I got:

Barnard College will notify all applicants of their admissions decision by postal mail. This page is not intended to be an online decision portal.
Once you receive your decision by mail, please note that the Enrolling Students Reply Page may only be officially accessed with the 7-digit application ID included in your offer of admission. Refer to your letter for the date by which the site will be live and accessible for you.

At the time, I didn’t think this meant anything. However, I have not received my letter and when I log into the portal, I get the same message. I am 99.99% positive this means I didn’t get it. I have a huge BC Calc exam tomorrow and I cannot focus whatsoever. If anyone has had a similar experience or can share some insight, I’d really appreciate it. THank you!
