You should probably reply as soon as you can, but it’s more a courtesy than anything else. I don’t think it’s really a money issue for most programs – one interviewee more or less won’t break the bank, as they’re already throwing insane amounts of cash at interview weekends.

Rejection-pre-interview letters are generally sent early – by about mid-February at the latest, say. Rejection-post-interview letters are often not sent until mid-March or early April; but you probably will already know you didn’t get in, because if you get in, you’ll be called or emailed within a week or so of the interview.

All programs notify applicants of their status, but some wait until the last minute to officially deliver the bad news.

I just got an interview invitation from UNC, BBSP today by email. Very glad.
The interview date is 5-7 Feb. Do I should reply immediately? They want me to send the faculty list, so I may take one or two days to list.
Do you know about % acceptance from people get interview?

Congrats on the UNC interview conanbot. In the email that I received from them, they ask that you reply as soon as possible but have until Jan 12 (at least for the Jan 29 interview) to give them that list of 10-12 faculty members you want to speak to.

I’m a bit worried with UNC. I submitted everything early, but for some reason the main admissions office (not the BBSP office) didn’t get my transcript in their database until Thursday or Friday. I hope that didn’t delay BBSP’s review of my application or anything.

(Oh gawd…I’m turning into those neurotic people on here! )

mollie, dyou know about those percentages for acceptances/interviews for any particular schools? I’m sure even if some of the numbers don’t apply to me, they’ll be helpful for others.

Hey Shoebox, I may be able to provide some insight. I had a similar issue with UNC’s graduate admission office “not receiving” my transcripts. Apparently, they had a bug in their system where if the transcripts were received prior to the application being submitted the grad school admissions office didn’t post that they were received, even though the dept did. I was told not to worry about it. I got an interview from them last week despite the online system indicating that my transcripts have not been received.

Totally anecdotal, but both my friend and I who got interviews at UNC were also accepted. Out of curiosity, did anyone on this board apply to Duke’s Stem Cell and Developmental Biology program? You can PM me if you don’t want to reply here.

Does anyone apply to UT southwestern? My recommenders sent LOR around 3 weeks ago (from international country), but the university still did not receive my LOR. Also, the deadline just passed.
Now, I’m very obsessive with this forum, too.

Most of it is sort of applicant rumor and rumbling.

The early ACCESS weekend is for their prime recruits, so if you don’t do anything wrong in the interviews, you’ll get in. Harvard BBS doesn’t interview, so if you are admitted in January, you’re admitted (no matter what you do at recruitment weekend). Stanford Biosciences and MIT Biology are the more judicious programs; they seem to accept about 2/3 of those interviewed (although at Stanford, it varies by program). Berkeley MCB seems to accept more than that after interview.

Well on the first page of the application it asked “area of interest within the program to which you are applying” so that is where I put “Pharmacology”

For research interest, I put biomaterials. But I was just wondering. Congrats though!!

I talked to the UNC administrator about the very issue. He said that as long as BBSP had your transcript then your application was eligible for review. So don’t worry about it. Like I said before, the review committee is meeting extensively this week.

I just got an interview at the University of Virginia for their neuroscience program.
I got a phone call this morning…during a final actually.
It is nice to know that I have at least one interview! :)

I don’t know if this is the right thread to ask. Anybody applied to UPenn Biomedical Graduate Studies umbrella program? I keep checking my status online and it says that they have not received my transcript and GRE score. On the FAQ page they said it may takes 2 weeks after the deadline to update the status and this week is the second week. I saw that some people in this board got interview invitation from some departments. I am wondering if you guys have the same problems as mine? I am now not worried about the interview invitation, but I am worried that my transcript and GRE score get lost in the system. They said not to call or email. So I don’t know what to do…

Interview invitation today via email for Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Biochemistry Program. To see the available interview dates it says to log into the application and click on the decision link. I do not see the link. It is the same ApplyYourself application that many other schools use- so I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.

I don’t want to worry you, because I did apply rather early, but yes, they do have my transcripts and GRE scores.
