common app 7/10… kind of cliche- about going through a really bad depression but gaining a new outlook on life

Reflection

Strengths: High GPA, really stepped on the gas junior year and got the best grades I had ever gotten, a lot of ECs and I would assume good letters of rec, a lot of awards
Weaknesses: ACT was terrible- I literally didn’t even study or think it mattered (NOT A GOOD IDEA IN HINDSIGHT), no work experience
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: high GPA, rigorous high school
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted at northeastern

General Comments: looking at other ppls stats I’m surprised I got in, mostly bc of my ACT score, but I suppose my gpa makes up for it. Really grateful to have gotten in though. If you got deferred- Don’t lose hope! You still have as much of a chance as everyone else!

Intended Major: Finance
State (if domestic applicant): NY
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: Low enough for substantial aid
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Zip zero none

Reflection

Strengths: EC’s, supplemental essay, SAT IIs, upward trend
Weaknesses: Not most rigorous course load except senior year (1 AP through junior year and 6 senior year), only average GPA, counselor rec, no major awards, no hooks
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My supplemental essay was the best essay I have written in my life, I showed my passion for business through the courses I took and my extracurriculars, and my math SAT score.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred from Northeastern and still waiting EA on Gtown, Villanova, and Binghamton and RD on Bentley, GW, and NYU

General comments:
Honestly very surprised especially after getting deferred from Northeastern earlier. This really shows you how much of a crap shoot college admissions really is. When a BC adcom came to my school he said that the first thing he looks at is the supplemental essay to get an idea of the student before reading the rest so I made sure that was perfect which I think was a leading cause of my acceptance. Very happy to be accepted and BC will definitely be in my head as May 1st approaches.

Counselor Rec: Idk, I met with her a lot to talk about college etc. maybe a ~6

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: Y
Intended Major: Econ/Finance at CSOM
State (if domestic applicant): PA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Indian
Gender: M
Income Bracket: Idk exactly, not a lot tho
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
None Really
Reflection

Strengths: ACT score, and I guess my ECs
Weaknesses: Pretty bad GPA
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’m not really sure, I heard that BC is really big on service so I geared my essays towards that a bit
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: State Schools, everything else is RD

General Comments:
Some advice would be not to freak out when the decisions start coming in, because I saw a bunch of people with better stats getting deferred and rejected, and I was tweaking out a bit. The admission process does seem holistic, so have some faith.

Something else, I don’t know if people agree, but something I think is a good idea is to build a theme in your essays/application. Mine was service to others with knowledge I could gain from Economics and Finance. I’m not really sure if it works at Ivies, and I didn’t get into CSOM honors, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Decision: Accepted
