Official Boston University BA/MD Thread

Hey, Pharmagal,

Matches can be found here --> http://www.bumc.bu.edu/Dept/Content.aspx?DepartmentID=42&PageID=12033
(I wonder if they block links...)

The match hospitals all look very good. :) In my opinion, anyway.

That's a really good match list!

hi hydrogen3K ..can u explain why its a good match list..i am just curious...cuz right now i have no idea wut a good match lists looks like...and also are u a med skool student now...or r u in undergrad...thanks in advance

Hi TorCan,
I'm entering med. school this August.
Many things contribute to a good match list. Yet, hospitals are a good indicator: MGH, Mayo, NY Pres, etc. Also, getting into some hard residency specialties are good: derm, neurosurgery, plastics...you don't want the majority ending up in family practice (there's little respect there -- but, I have no problem with it). Further, a good national distribution, meaning that the school is in good relations with the directors (not everyone being clumped in a few hospitals).

ooo ok thanks...i was looking at the list and it didnt make sense to me at all...hmm i guess i'll learn more as i begin my undergrad years...btw..good luck with Med Skool..fun begins next year for u!! 3 more yrs for me. enjoy!

Hey guys, i got into BU's med program too and i also got the Trustee scholarship which is full tuition for undergrad, but i also got into Northwestern's 7 year medical program. (no money) Does anybody have any advice for me as to where i should go or what i should consider in making my decision?
I'm from missouri, i hope to see all of you there on the 20th.

Icheeq,
Northwestern's HPME is far superior to BU's combined program. I believe it's considered a top tier BA/MD program.

However, where you decided to go might depend on your money situation.
If you can afford HPME, you could choose HPME.

If you can not, select BU.

Hi everybdy,
I am from Chicago and I also got in to BU combined program. Other places I got in to include SLU and UIC. SLU is giving me some money. I got a full ride at Miami but did not get in to combined program. So I am in areal soup in terms of decision= any thoughts?

hey browngirl congrats first off for getting into all these amazing places! Ok so my bias towards BU is that its 7 yrs and the atmosphere that exists among SMEDS here is great i thought..(that is when i stayed in the dorms when i came for the interview.) Also SMED is very brown browngirl..haha...not that it matters at SLU or boston i presume...but ya of the two combined med programs i think BUSM might help you later on with residency matches ...(and also ur ambitions of a good residency)...atleast thats what i have heard and also BU SMED is quite an established program from the 60's i think...so all these factors may pull you towards BU. btw if u r coming to BU Openhouse ..see you there! take care

Any one heard anything about SMED decisions yet?
