“man, I’m surprised how many sub 1900 sats are being accepted. Must’ve been a weak pool.”

As was already noted, it’s not just about the test scores. Local student was just accepted with sub-1700 test scores. Student had a 3.7 average, which included several C’s, so maybe it’s not just about grades either? Said student did have good ECs and good recs. Was also full pay, which may have had something to do with it.

Whether or not you pay in full has no affect on your admission decision. I emailed the people at the admissions office asking them and they said they were a “need-blind” school.

From wiki: “Need-blind admission is a term in the U.S. denoting a college admission policy in which the admitting institution claims not to consider an applicant’s financial situation when deciding admission. Generally, an increase in students admitted under a need-blind policy and needing financial aid requires the institution to back the policy with an ample endowment or source of funding.”

timesnewroman: some of the students with the lower SAT scores and G.P.As may have been accepted to the CGS program, which is a program for a lower student profile. From what I understand from a friend of mine whose daughter is at BU, the CGS program does accept students with less than 1800 SAT. It is unclear from these acceptances whether those students were accepted into that program or not.

I thought last year (class of 2013 applicants) was the last year CGS would be accepting new students. As in, they are not continuing the program.

I was accepted ED in the general studies program.

I recently read some negative comments about it. It is the same school and you
can definitely transfer into Any school at BU. My ACT was a 26 which may have been
too low for other schools at BU.

I am thinking of calling to see if I can switch to another school before RD
I doubt it.

lily16,
There is nothing wrong with the CGS program at BU. My D is a student at BU in the COMM school, but has quite a few friends in CGS. She is a sophomore now. During the sophomore year, CGS students take an intro class in their major. If BU is the school you want to attend and your grades aren’t up to par for the other schools at BU, CGS is definitely the way to go. Don’t listen to the negative chatter that you hear about CGS - I’ve heard it, my D has heard it, her friends in CGS have heard it. No one pays attention to it, and it has no impact on what people think of you at BU.

Boston U obv didnt see it as a prestige issue at all. And second of all if ur SAT scores are sooo great, why didnt u apply ED to an ivy or something, i mean not to get on ur case dude, but just cause u got a good SAT score doesnt mean that ppl who didnt are smarter than u in other areas.

bu is continuing the cgs program, theyre getting rid of uni (the university professors program) because while it is very prestigious and kids get to choose their own majors, its not really conducive to getting a job when you majored in some random mix of african dance and the the politics of the new deal (trust me i’ve heard of majors along that line). thats why theyre replacing it with something called new college? i guess it will be like a new sort of honors program, but i havent heard any news about it since last year.

Chief2011 and brighteyes93… you guys gave me a heart attack…
i read the first page of this thread and i was like ■■■■ people have been notified and accepted ALREADY!!!
then i read the dates… they were all from 2009… LOL

I just logged on to my BU web account and on there it said: “Our records indicate that review of your application for admission is complete.”

BU actually called my school last friday and asked for my *****ty senior year first quarter grades…
but i guess that’s good, right? if they werent even considering me, why would they want to see my senior year grades? or may that’s just a part of the process?? idk…
but i’ll cry so hard if i end up not getting in because of my bad senior grades ;(

They emailed the IB coordinator at my school asking for mine, yet not for a friend of mine who is applying as well. Lets hope it pays off! 6 DAYS!!!

woops sorry bud! looks like we’re still waiting a few more days.

Did the school contact you or your counselor about submitting first quarter grades? As far as I’m concerned I was not asked to do that…that could either be a very good thing or a very bad thing.

My admissions status also says “review of your application is complete”. Did any of you apply for financial aid? applicant link is telling me that my financial aid application is complete but will not be reviewed until my application is reviewed…which seems a little fishy since the other day my application status changed to tell me the review was complete.

Oh my, now I’m worrying since my status still reads “Our records currently indicate that your application for admission is complete.” so does this mean with only 5 days left before decisions, they still haven’t gotten to mine? Yikes, makes me nervous haha. Also, I wouldn’t know if they contacted my school to retrieve senior grades or not, but I had one…not so outstanding precal grade. I’m just hoping everything works out for me, as well as for all of you I know how stressful it is…trust me…my computer’s history is basically the Applicant Link.

My Applincantlink account now says the same thing about my application being completed, and I think it may be because they finally got your senior grades and so the app is technically complete? That’s what I figured, anyway :p

Eeeek, I mean, aside from that ONE not-so-pretty math grade, my record looks pretty good. I wish they wouldn’t look at first quarter, I have a B in there now too, booo Well hoping for the best (as with all of you as well, seriously) I’m assuming we’re all equally as anxious about this.

Boston emailed me for my senior grades for first marking period and also went and contacted my school counselor too to get them. I figured it was a good sign since if I wasn’t a candidate, why go through the effort of getting the rest of my grades? Or it could mean im borderline, who knows. I beginning to obsessively check the applicant link and my email though for admission. With it being so close i figure the decision could come any day now. The people last year were posting decisions on the 14th so that means they do send out before the 15th. Sooner the better, I gotta know if i made it.
