<p>Mine (I'm an international student, but currently a Freshman in UMass Amherst):
- Biology major
- HS GPA 3.65
- College GPA: I have no idea so far, but it shouldn't be lower than 3.3 - mostly because of an Honors class I'm taking which is the only class I'm not acing but I like it too much :(
- SAT: 1860, but I don't think they require it from transfers
- ECs: ehh, none in high school, Biology Club here (I know this is nothing! But I just can't balance a huge load of things at once since I've never done any ECs before college)
- Recommendations: hoping to ask my Honors chem professor for one, I think he is the only professor that actually knows me</p>
<p>Reasons for transferring: the town is boring; UMass doesn't have a Neurobiology major that I want</p>
<p>Since BU doesn't have its own essay to submit, I'm pretty much screwed, but still going to apply and hope for the best.</p>
<p>Are you sure you would want to switch? Amherst is an AMAZING school… But I’m also in a similar situation. I’m at a somewhat reputable LAC (although nowhere near Amherst) and I’m looking at transferring as well… For the same reasons kind of. Town is REALLY boring (and conservative (in kentucky) ) and I want to go in Finance and the opportunities just aren’t here.</p>
<p>But honestly you look like a great candidate - I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. Look at Boston College also, though.</p>
<p>@SamCaldwell2012 This is off-topic, but I sincerely do not think UMass is a great school. Sure, it’s okay, and it’s definitely good for a state school, but I believe I can do better. And I also do not think I’m a great candidate, since my college GPA is probably gonna suck because of that Honors course (too bad I really don’t want to go to the regular one to get an easy A) and NO extracurriculars (I hear people have like at least 10 different activities, and I couldn’t even manage 3 so I dropped out of 2 of them). Are you transferring to BU too?</p>

<p>That changes things. I honestly don’t think as many people have as many ECs as is commonly displayed on the internet. Just the people that DO like to boast/display it. That’s my belief anyway… (let’s hope!)</p>
<p>And right now I’m just considering transferring in general… But BU would be one of the colleges I would apply to.</p>

SAT: Does not matter
Units: Hope to complete 60+ by the time I transfer (anyone know if they are lenient when evaluating credits??)
ECs: Phi Theta Kappa Board member, Business honor society board member, tutor, some miscellaneous volunteering.</p>

Already turning in your common app? Wow, you’re quick! The deadline is in March, I believe. I think that what matters most is how well you did in college… I’m not exactly knowledgeable on the subject, but I don’t expect them to value your HS GPA too much since you’ve been out of HS for a while and had a chance to reconsider your outlook on education and improve your grade and all that.</p>

They’ll let you know once you’ve been accepted. They don’t evaluate credits sooner than that, but then again they might not even do it until after the deposit deadline. If you get in, make efforts to contact them asap. Just dealing with them last year I should warn you that they’ll probably count fewer credits that you’re thinking. Most semester courses are 4 units and not the 3 at most cc.</p>
<p>As far as your chances, I think you’ve got a good shot. I applied to CAS, not COM, and I had similar stats to you, but I’m a urm and didn’t apply for f.a., which may have been the things that got me in. Make sure to write killer essays and try to explain that H.S. gpa if you have a great story that can contrast your college record to your HS. Good Luck.</p>
<p>BU only has the short ‘In a few sentences, please tell us why BU is a good fit for you and what specifically has led you to apply for admission?’ question on its supplement, and the only other essay is the general one. I’m also applying to NYU, so I considered writing a separate essay for each and submitting them to each uni through 2 common app accounts (some searching on this forum told me people do that). But I’m not sure this is the right thing to do, since my answer to the short question would be just the shortened version of the essay. I want my essay to show why I chose that particular school, and not just the general “I want to transfer out”. So help me out here, I’m a bit confused.</p>
<p>That’s the reason they ask that question in the supplement. They understand that many applicants apply to several schools, so they make it easier for students to separate the reasons why you want to go to that specific school from the general personal statement. Go ahead and make separate version of the CA, but IMHO it’s not necessary and doesn’t affect your chances. You should be able to follow the format requested, without needing to change the system. Go and try it if you really need to or think it’s going to help your writing.</p>
<p>The CA will not let one person make multiple accounts, what you need to do is make different alternate versions of the CA within your account, there’s a difference.</p>
<p>Hi, I too am thinking about transferring to BU for the Fall 2013 semester. I’m currently a sophomore at Temple University majoring in Advertising in the comm school. I’m considering a transfer because of academics and the area. Boston is a much nicer city compared to Philadelphia and I really loved the “city feel” of the BU campus. </p>
<p>Here are my stats. I know they’re not great, but I’m hoping a good essay could give me a fighting chance:</p>
<p>HS GPA: 3.0
SAT: 1840 (not official, give or take up to 20)
No ACT
College GPA: 3.24 (Though I hope to raise a point or two that after this semester)
EC:
Highschool - Model UN, Intramural Soccer, two years of track, Volunteered at the NJ Food Bank/Church soup Kitchen.
College: Sustainability LLC for my freshman year, and I’ve contact the college radio station for volunteering, though that hasn’t panned out yet.</p>
<p>I’ve also worked at my hometown YMCA as a Sports Coach/Lead Camp Counselor for 4+ years. So do I have a shot? I’d love to transfer to BU, but I know my academics aren’t perfect. Please be as realistic as possible, and even if you’re not the best judge any response will be very appreciated.</p>
<p>Edit: Also, my brother is a senior at BU. Though I’m not sure if this makes a difference/they would even notice.</p>
<p>I’m worried about credits now. I want to transfer as a junior and graduate in two years so hopefully they aren’t too stingy. I read they don’t transfer communication courses, but does that mean COM courses or communication courses in general? I took intro mass comm, interpersonal comm, and public speaking, all of which count as communication courses at my current college. </p>

<p>I am currently a sophomore at a community college. I graduated two years early from high school (left after my sophomore year) due to financial reasons (i had to help my parents out because they’re getting older- and in the long run this would be the smarter financial decision). </p>
<p>Anyways, here are my stats:
ACT Composite: 35
College GPA: 4.0
High School GPA: 3.9 </p>
<p>major of interest: anthropology
EC:
Vice-president anthropology club
-internship at non-profit organization dealing with middle eastern/north african culture
-creator and head of music teaching program at a non-profit organization that caters to children from low-income areas suffering from mental disorders
-creator and head of cultural enrichment program at the same place listed previously
-tutor for reading at low-income school
-soprano student at music conservatory for 3 years
-presented&won anthropology symposium at school (presented on original research on anthropological topic
-i work at a local pharmacy as a clerk for the past two years
-been helping out at my dad’s small business for the last four years
-created a youth council that is active in local govt.

<p>@earlygrad123 you’re 100% in. I’d actually suggest you look at Ivy league schools, not that I know that much about admissions there, but your stats look incredibly good. I mean, if BU has lots of applicants like you, I don’t even stand a chance.</p>
<p>well, i’m not sure how a lot of universities will look at my application since i am so young. they’re looking at transfer applicants for a lot of life experience…
plus, boston is AWESOME. great for a foodie
and, I want to do anthro w/ a minor in pubilc health…and the public health curriculum at BU is pretty awesome.

<p>This will probably get buried, but I just found this thread. I’m trying to transfer to BU from the University of Utah. </p>

It’s sponsored through my university, so I’m getting 12 credit hours of political science classes through it, but I’m hoping this won’t reflect poorly?</p>
