OFFICIAL Brown 2009 Transfers Thread

Wow… tomorrow at 5PM?

Jeez… crunch time.

I was getting ready to camp outside of the mailbox, but now I will find out the decision sooner than expected.

Best of luck to everyone!

Let the countdown begin.

yeezy, i’ve always wondered that question. i know at my school, admissions is major specific. thus, some majors are easier to get in with than others. i dunno if brown does that though.

the main thing i thought of was, even if i get in with blahblah-easy major, would i be happy? or would i rather stay at my current school with a major i love? at the end of the day i think people should apply for the major they are most passionate about as that is what will come across in the writing of essays. in any event, the second choice major could probably be the “easy” major as a backup…

Especially since there was that essay asking about what we wanted to do and how we decided on it. Picking something you aren’t as passionate about would have made that essay a lot harder/worse than it needed to be…

guys thanks for the feedback, it was just that a couple of days ago, having looked at the departments I applied to again, I realised my second choice major would perhaps be better suited for me. too late now though to change anything, we will just have to see what happens. any international applicants here?

also, i don’t really understand what this whole thing about Brown being need-aware means, does that just simply mean they tend to take more applicants NOT intending on applying for financial aid? especially for transfer applicants?

yes. that seems to be the case.

i’m pretty sure this is where we go to find the decision online:

https://selfservice.brown.edu/ss/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin

I think its in the same place where we could check our application materials before. I bet a link will show up again on the main admissions page or an email will come when the decision is posted, showing the link again.

yeezy, my brother is an international transfer applicant! are you an international too?

good luck everyone!!!

Nervous! This is gonna be a long day

Let the long day begin…

Wish the best of luck to everyone here.

I just called the admissions office and they told me that online decisions won’t be available. They’ll be sending them out through the mail tomorrow.
Sorry everyone!

To clarify, will we be receiving our decisions tomorrow or just sending them out tomorrow with the possibility of receiving the decision tomorrow?

Thanks.

I’m not sure, but I think it’s safer to go with the first choice. I think she said decisions will not be posted online, not just not be posted online tonight.
But hey, it doesn’t hurt to check. If we’re lucky they might actually do it tomorrow (or even tonight if she was misinformed). Just keep checking, but don’t keep your hopes up.

So now they’re not posted tonight? Wack.

Shy is right - I just got off the phone as well. I apologize people, but I promise you (as well as other people who called can tell you) that the woman I spoke to yesterday said they would have the decisions up by 5:00 PM tonight. Anyways, I just got of the phone with admissions yet again, and she said they were unable to post them online - so they will be sent out in the mail tomorrow.

i just got off the phone with admission… it sounds to me like the decision won’t be posted online at all. :\ more waiting.

If the online transfer status changed to spring 2010, does that mean that I’m only being considered for that term? No chance for the fall? Because I’ve already gotten into Cornell, Boston College, and Vassar for the fall, so a spring acceptance from Brown doesn’t really mean anything to me. A fall acceptance would be very different of couse.

so no online decisions?!?!?!

my brother’s an international student, and he’s left the states for summer vac, and the mail is probably going to go to the dorm address…yikes… when will they accept phone calls to give out decisions??

lovelyhoya, yeah i’m applying from London, where is your brother applying from? you mean you’re both applying for a transfer to brown?

no, i’m not applying, my brother is.

he’s korean, but our family’s lived in SE Asia for more than 10 years… so a double international.

i really hope the decisions are posted online :(
