Lots of people are in your shoes. (That is, people who didn’t apply for financial aid and got rejected.) Apparently, Brown wasn’t need aware this year.

Lots of people are in your shoes. (That is, people who didn’t apply for financial aid and got rejected.) Apparently, Brown wasn’t need aware this year.

only one person who applied financial aid has gotten in on here so far…all the rest of us didnt…so what the hell are u talking about that they arent need aware???

They have plenty of people who have not applied for FA to choose from… so its not because a few got rejected that its not need aware…

^^ im glad someone on here has some common sense…cause we all know that applying for FA hurts ur chances

^Collegekidunh recently talked to a Brown admissions officer who said that in this year’s cycle, applying for financial aid helped applicants.

it just doesnt make sense… but i guess brown admissions dont make sense so…

Colleges typically give preferences to poor students, so if Brown did not have to resort to need-aware admissions this cycle, it makes sense that less wealthy students (i.e. those applying for financial aid) had an easier time getting in.

^^ They explicity said they raised the transfer acceptance up 50 students to 200 because they needed to increase revenue…and there is a set amount of fa dollars and when they run out ur screwed on admissions…honestly i dont understand where u get ur facts from.

go through threads over the past years also if u dont believe me…there is a higher rejection rate for financial aid applicants than those not applying for financial aid…every thread u go to there are more transfers who did not apply for financial aid getting in than those who applied for financial aid…

exactly @hitsmallkids. Brown only had 400,000 devoted to transfers and after that they were only accepting no-need applicants.

Look, all I’m saying is that a guy on this forum talked to a Brown admissions officer who said that people who applied for financial aid had an easier time getting in.

I’m sorry, but at least from my perspective it seems preposterous that anyone could even believe the notion that students willing to pay their way had a harder time than those looking for funding. From a financial prospective that’s absurd; the only plausible scenario in which that would make sense is if Brown were somehow under-quota for needs-based students, in which case they could just increase the amount of aid allotted to those already receiving. We’re supposed to be smart, people. I AM curious, though, why this thread has seen so much more action than the Columbia/Penn ones. As far as I knew, Brown did not receive more applications than either of the aforementioned schools.

I hope so @transfers2010 because i applied for financial aid and i havent gotten a decision yetttt

Honestly, just accept whatever decision Brown gives you. Why is everybody speculating as to who has a better chance then who? Focus on yourself and your own qualifications. Its great to share information but jeez, there is so much crazy speculation on this thread.

Okay I actually have a question though haha. So, as I said before… I was waitlisted. Does anybody know if there is a separate wait list for Fall and Spring transfer?

Look, the fact of the matter is that Brown has released numerous statements and articles in their newspapers on this matter so I dont really see the point of debating it if the college has a confirmed stance on it.

On another note, should we expect the decision in the mail tomorrow if we didnt call today?

wat i’ve learned from college admissions at the end of the day is that they want the numbers… you can go on and on about how they want a person who is going to be a leader and love learning and yada yada the rest of that crap… at the end… they want the 4.0 and 2300+, decent ecs and youl have a good shot…

got called back around 2:45 today, accepted. I did apply for financial aid but have not received that info yet (probably will come with hard copy acceptance via snail mail)
