Hi! I emailed them yesterday telling that I want to receive my decision by email because I am international and regular mail needs 3 weeks to arrive, and they answered :

Dear x,

Thank you for applying to Brown University. Unfortunately we cannot
email decisions.

Hi there! I am also an international student, who was waitlisted by Brown.
I’ve been lurking for a while and I think it’s time to join you guys in limbo. I have received ambiguous replies from Brown just like you. When my counselor sent an update to the office, they told her they would add the information to my file, even though the decision letters had already been sent by snail mail. I have written two emails to my regional officer, who hasn’t replied at all. When I wrote to the admissions office, I received a reply, which was identical to what you guys received:
“Thank you for applying to Brown University. We appreciate your
continued interest in Brown. The vast majority of wait list decisions
have been mailed. Students should wait to receive their decisions by
mail since they are being sent periodically, not on a specific
schedule. We do not anticipate we will have wait list spaces for next
year, but are continuing to review a small number of cases in the
event we do. Everyone will be notified as soon as possible of the
final outcome of our deliberations.”
Why couldn’t they tell me right away, if I am one of those, who have already been rejected?

Hey guys, I’m also an international student, and I’ve just received my letter. The letter was dated as May 15th and was sent by airmail. All you other international students should receive it soon.

I was desperately hoping the rumors weren’t true… but I guess they were…

They started off by saying:
Dear ____:

“When we wrote you earlier of the Board’s decision to place your name on our Waiting List, we had hoped to be able to consider you for admission at a later time. The high number of commitments from accepted students, however, means that we will not be able to make any offers to waitlisted students for the Class of 2016 at Brown.”

and the letter goes on.

I have to admit though, it was a nice rejection letter, unlike some other universities.

Wishing all of you the best of luck in the future!

Dan, hi! I am from Kazakhstan, and as I understand from your previous posts, you are from Brazil. By the way, this summer I am going to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro!
Have you heard anything from Brown?

DAN2233: Are you really from Brazil? Where do you live? I live in Rio de Janeiro. When did you receive your decision that you were waitlisted? I haven’t received my decision yet. I tried to call’em but couldn’t get through. I suppose I was rejected. I guess they would’ve sent me a letter if I was accepted or waitlisted. I wish you all the best!

I just received my rejection letter. I fully expected it, so I don’t feel that bad. However, I still believe that Brown is the right place for me, so I have decided to take a gap year and try my luck again. Good luck to those still waiting!

Hey guys! I have not logged in for a while… I still have not received my decision… i hope that it’s a good sign… My logic tells me there is no reason to let me wait this long if I am rejected, unless they are heartless Have you heard of anyone that has been accepted/z listed?.. Will keep you posted as soon as I get my decision… Best of luck!

Oh goodness, I haven’t logged on here in a LONG time. I did want to chime in and say that the waitlist is indeed a grueling wait, but Brown et al are not doing it to be malicious. It’s apart of the waiting game - summer melt, as admissions calls it. I got accepted off the waiting list on 3 June back in '09. And people were left on weeks later. The waitlist letter mentions this so my best piece of advice is to wait patiently an d to NOT obsess over this. It’s not worth it…trust me…I missed out my senior year because the Brown waitlist consumed my life! Start to enjoy your summer! You’re finished High School! (and i’m almost finished college…*****!) xxx

Brown just sent me a letter (dated June 4) telling me that I have been accepted to the Class of 2017 and would have to take a gap year in order to attend Brown. I’m honored, but as of now I’m probably going to still attend Dartmouth since I don’t have to wait a year and the two school’s are comparable (in my opinion).

But if you are still on the WL, check your mailbox! I’m not sure if they actually accepted anyone for the class of 2016… it doesn’t look like it, but you may be able to go next year!
