Essays (rating 1-10, details):
Common App Essay: 7.5/10 - Talked about my transition from middle school to high school and how it has shaped me to become the person I am today through a small anecdote of when I first met my best friend.
Short Answers: 10/10 - I really expressed my interest at Brown and how their education will guarantee me opportunities that will benefit not only me but the world as well (since I intend to major Environmental Science).
Additional Info Essay: 8.5/10 - This essay was my only shot at getting into these Ivy’s when I first applied. I talked about my circumstances at home and within my community. I explained why I got the scores I did but also emphasized my love for learning and how I intend to be successful one day no matter where I go.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):
Teacher Rec #1: Pre-Calc Teacher: 10/10 - I was her first-year student at my school and I was also the one out of two only Sophomores in this class so she grew increasingly close to every one of us. She mentioned about my intense love for math and how I impacted her at a personal level (was shocked when I read this part lol in a good way btw!)
Teacher Rec #2: Honors Chemistry Teacher: 7/10- I had her my sophomore year and she is also the advisor for the STEM program here at my school so I am pretty close to her. She had good things to say about me but nothing special. Nonetheless, I am forever grateful for the recommendation.
Teacher Rec #3: Japanese Teacher: didn’t get to read it since she did submit it a day before the deadline I think lol but I’m assuming it was good considering I was one of the few students who took 3 years of Japenese and I was also awarded, with another student, a state recognition award.
Counselor Rec: don’t know as well, didn’t get to read it.
Interview: Was very short, about 15 minutes but she seemed like she was in a rush because she only asked about 5 questions and said it was time for her to go. But she did say I emphasized my responses and seemed like a good kid. I asked her more questions after the interview via email.

Weaknesses: Standardized Test Scores!!!
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think I was waitlisted because my scores weren’t up to par BUT I also feel extremely grateful to the committee for giving me this opportunity and not rejecting me completely. I didn’t think I would make it at all but when I saw those bold words that said I was waitlisted, I felt in a way relieved? It’s a crazy world indeed.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
Accepted: Rutgers University
Semi-Acceptance (I guess???): Cornell University - was given the transfer option to attend my Sophomore year!!!
Rejected: Princeton University, Stanford University
General Comments: Don’t do the same thing I did and only apply to top tier schools. My safe school was Rutgers University so I knew if anything, I would be attending there but still. I regret not applying to second tier schools such as Bryn Mawr, Barnard, Colgate, and etc. Not saying you shouldn’t apply to the Ivys but be smart about it. Apply to as many as you can and just show the real you and explain your circumstances if you have any. It goes to show these universities review your app in a holistic manner.
