Official Brown Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

I searched and didn't find a thread for prospective brown transfers, hope this would help!

IN on this…probably killing my chances as I applied for aid and have full need

I assume the amount of aid you request is inversely related to your chances of admission?

As in, if you require 10,000 per year, your chances will be higher (everything else being the same) than if you require 50,000 per year.

Have read info that’s contrary to what one would intuit. Some on the Brown forum were saying it is more advantageous to have huge need over lesser as it indicates lower socioeconomic status and in turn provides greater diversity. Hoping this holds true.

Hey everyone. Just about done with the application except I’m still deliberating about the supplement. I really don’t have anything else “crucial about my candidacy” to provide here that hasn’t already been said in the rest of my app. Yet I do realize that you should probably utilize every oppurtunity given to you. So far I just wrote a short, creative, personal narrative piece. Thoughts?

Have those folks seen actual reports from past applicants?:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/936056-brown-transfer-applicant-survey-fa-need-aware-admissions-4.html?highlight=need+aware

@entomom good link…appears as though gaining admission will be 10x harder for me

I’m applying! I love Brown so much!!

I have submitted my application and I left it unuploaded. IMO, you should not feel forced to upload an “optional” essay as the prompt is basically saying that DON’T UPLOAD unless you have something significant and special to tell. Uploading a decent but noncritical essay might hurt as it indicates that you did not fully understand the underlying implication of that prompt.

Whats the transfer admit rate for Brown? Are we talking about transfer from another Uni?

Go to the CB Big Future to find transfer rates for any school.

When talking about transferring it’s from one university to another, not an internal transfer within a university.

This sounds like a reasonable assessment. I actually wrote a different essay that addresses a specific extracurricular organization at Brown that I really want to take part in, and related a lot of relevant past experiences that could help me contribute to the EC. Since my “Short Answer” was mostly focused on Brown’s academic and social culture, do you think it would be appropriate for me to talk about this in the “optional essay” section?

This will likely show them where on the campus you have a place. I am also doing that for my application as a kind of “heres what I can offer your college” kind of essay. Good luck!

The supplement states “This form will be used to initiate your application file and must be submitted before we can receive your Common Application Transfer documents.”

I hope they’re not strict about that because I imagine most people sent in letters of rec/transcripts before submitting the supplement.

does anyone know how to track our applications, never got an email with any sort of login information…

I applied last year and they will send you log in information via email in the next few days!

just submitted all applications over the weekend~ Have you guys gotten any email from the admission office?
