[]GPA weighted: 5.03
[]GPA unweighted: 3.76
[]Rank or % estimate: 52/586

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[]Essays: i wrote about a particular hardship i've had to endure, and how it changed me in an “unconventional” way (as opposed to how most people react to it)
[]Teacher Recs: one is probably good, the other one i'm guessing is great
[]Counselor Rec: should be pretty good, my IB counselor wrote it
[]Hook (if any): the aforementioned hardship? not sure if it counts as a hook..i just hope i didn't come across as asking for pity. at most, it's one of those "extenuating circumstances" that might have affected my grades junior year. so maybe they deferred me because adcom wanted to see how i rebounded by looking at my grades from first semester senior year?

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[]State or Country: TX
[]School Type: public and friggin competititve
[]Ethnicity: asian
[]Gender: female
[]Legacy Yes/No: no
[]Recruited Yes/No: no
[li]Important ECs: orchestra (concertmaster), solo piano/violin (won competitions), selective chamber music program, chinese traditional dance, policy debate, newspaper, was heavily involved in planning a statewide conference for TX IB kids (planning took a good 8 months or so), various honor societies, leadership positions sprinkled here and there
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: my resume also discussed my IB history/theory of knowledge internal assessment papers, and my extended essay. oh also, national merit scholarship semifinalist, have consistently placed in first 10 nationally/in district on national spanish exam, collegeboard AP scholar with distinction, was at summer@brown this summer for 3 weeks

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: wasn't really expecting to be accepted...i guess my class rank/gpa is the big red splotch on my otherwise so-so record, not sure how much i stand out. but CONGRATULATIONS!!! to everybody who made it in!!

Sounds like a case of rejection to me. Don't worry, there will always be hope for the WASPs out there.

Jenz, I think you started out disadvantaged but was able to be deffered is greatly indicative of your other qualities. I want to know where you end up going! Do you have facebook? :P

Darn, brumaire, you sound like my friend who was deferred. What kind of hardship did you use, because from the synopsis that you posted, it still sounded a little generic. I don't think they deferred based on your grades, because they see your grades from first semester regardless of your acceptance.

ACCEPTED

[li]Important ECs: NHS president, literary magazine editor, robotics “CEO”, Varsity Academic Competition, Cross Country, Track, ect.
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors: Again, trying to figure that out. Actually, now that I think about it, one of the main reasons I got in is because I’m taking six AP classes during my senior year- which means I’ll take seven AP tests in the spring (econ is macro and micro). I think Brown likes dedication to learning and evidence that you are challenging yourself fully with your school’s ciriculum.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Very excited for next year- the next six months are going to be torture though.

wow...

ok for real, everyone whos upset about deferral, cheer up guys, you still have a relatively good shot, deferral means you're qualified but they want more time to decide, it could all be a matter of them seeing your 1st semester grades, it may not be what you wanted to hear but if you think about it, you beat out a lot of people to even be considered for deferral

dont worry about numbers or statistics at all, take them with a grain of salt (or two)

i hope my words help you out and all of you will get in somewhere

(btw this is coming from someone who was deferred)

Anyways, no one on CC has been rejected?

Accepted. Too happy and done with all the stats stuff to care to post them right now.

I got rejected, im still in shock :(,
stats 4.0, 2000 SAT scores, president of MUN, captain of a varsity sport, and president of other clubs, amazing essays, and good recs, and I'm also sort of a legacy my cousins graduated from there.
I still dont believe I got rejected...I didnt even apply for fin aid.
Apparently my advisor was telling me how Brown has quotas for ppl from the middle east and one of the admissions officers is a turkish woman, so she mostly accepts turks, I'm an arab btw. So I just think this is complete ********.
congrats everyone who got in :(
