Most people applied to multiple Ivies and top schools. It would be interesting to compare RD decision results from these schools in one place. To avoid redundancy, I’ve created a separate thread.

[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus, AP English Lit w/ Intro to Poetry, Honors Anatomy, Honors Physics, Honors French IV, Economics
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Tons and tons of school ones, three from Rotary (two school level, one regional), one school district one[/ul]
[/li]

Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars/u:
[li]Science Expo Director: organized and helped run a large-scale science fair for over 600 third graders. I got to be one of the people to head the event this year (3 year participant); []CSF Co-President: I organized, planned, and ran a four day trip to Southern California to tour nine colleges (member for three years); [/li][]ECO Club Aiding founder and Treasurer: Helped educate students and staff of high school, as well as the community, about their impact on the environment -initiated recycling program, etc, etc.;
[]Track & Field Varsity Boys -ran mile and two mile, got my letter (2 years);
[li]Cross Country -Varsity, got my letter (1 year)[/ul][/li][li] Job/Work Experience: Peer tutor at high school, selected by teachers; available 1-3 times a week after school for all tutoring needs![/li][li] Volunteer/Community service: Vice President and Secretary for Key Club - I have gotten over 300 hours with the club, and with independently working with the middle school, educating, counseling, and tutoring.[/li][li] Summer Activities: I attended the leadership camp for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and I took two summer courses at a local college: Intro to Psych and American Government, getting an A+ in Psych and one of the 5 A’s given out in a class of 50 for AmGov!
[/li]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays/u:
[li] Common App Main: A long story about the lesson I learned from an experience from when I was younger, and how it has contributed to the person I am today[/li][] EC Short Answer: Talked about the trip I ran to tour 9 colleges. I talked about how I changed the club and geared it toward educating my school about the prospects of college, and how we tripled membership.
[] Why Brown: I talked about how I love the open cirriculum (whoopdee doo!), loved the architecture, and mentioned some of the manuscripts it possesses that I love, like that from Henry David Thoreau -my idol!
[]Academic Interest: Talked about the previously-mentioned Science Expo, why I participate in it, and what I have done to make a difference (I helped expand the event from 400 third graders to over 600 & helped create a night showing, open to the community).
[li]Supplemental: I talked about my experiences with dissecting a cat for Anatomy, and related it to my unbounded academic interests. Really interesting; I wrote it in a different style, and thought it was quite the unique metaphor. Lol.[/li][/ul]
[li] Teacher Recommendation #1: From Science teacher I had for Honors Chem, AP Bio, Honors Physics, faculty advisor for CSF, and worked with on the Science Expo. It was very sincere[/li][li] Teacher Recommendation #2: From English teacher I had for 3 years for Honors 10th grade English to this year’s AP English. It was also very nice, praising me highly[/li][li] Counselor Rec: Very nice woman, she liked me, and thought I was very smart, and probably stated so.[/li][li] Additional Rec: From Anatomy teacher; was my best rec. She said I had raised the standard in her class for years to come, and related an anecdote from my community service -an instance at the local retirement home I have frequented.[/li][li] Interview: It went okay. It was in a small coffee shop. There were some silent moments, and she wasn’t the most sociable of interviewers, but I was excited to be there, and she knew that. I also followed up with an e-mail for a question she asked that I couldn’t answer too well, and ended up submitting this 1,500 word tale about my individuality and uniqueness. I wonder if she read it… or if it made a difference![/li]
Other[ul]
[li] Date Submitted App: December 27th![/li][li] State/u: Nothern California[/li][li] School Type: Public; rarely sends grads to top schools; located in country backdrop[/li][li] Ethnicity: Did not state in application[/li][li] Gender: Male[/li][li] Income Bracket: ~$80,000[/li][li] Hooks/u: -[/ul]
[/li]

Reflection[ul]
[li] Strengths: I have some interersting EC’s, and I think they were quite strong relative to my area and situation.[/li][li] Weaknesses: Low test scores.[/li][li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I am very happy with a waitlisting, as much as it hurts. I thought I had a very weak chance, considering the strong applicants this school recieves. In such, I am honored to have been waitlisted. Nevertheless, I’m ripping my hair out. I haven’t gotten into to a single private school I applied to. I was waitlisted at UofChicago and Pomona as well, and rejected at Stanford and Yale. Reached a little beyond my means with these applications! Oops! xD[/li][li] What would you have done differently?: Eh, not sure. It would be nice to know what would have pushed me over the edge, but I’m still considerably happy that I even got waitlisted.[/ul]
[/li]

**General Comments: **I’m going to try my hardest and do everything in my power to get off the waiting list! I absolutely LOVE Brown! Hopefully the waitinglist isn’t too bad!

rejected… originally deferred, can’t say I didn’t expect it but I wanted to believe something great would happen. now I need to see if my 3 waitlist schools will accept me :(

Accepted. Now I’m deciding between Brown and Dartmouth I think.

Denied :frowning: Congrats to all who got accepted!!!

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Who really knows? Do what you love.

General Comments: Good Luck!! The moral of my story is to not apply to a lot of colleges because Stanford didn’t accept you in the EA round. Though apparently a lot of people did this. Also, don’t get down because you got rejected by Stanford and waitlisted by Duke. The Ivies might still like you!
