Not a clue. That one sentence was literally all she wrote in the mail.

I thought the admissions office was closed on the weekends? And I had a horrible dream that we were all called into a room and everyone but me was accepted off the waitlist. It was so terrifying.

@mchen013 Ahh you poor thing, thats horrible.
Yes I think they are closed too, but I sent the email yesterday and received a reply about an hour ago. I guess she replied from home
I don’t know about you all, but despite the record breaking yield and the extremely low odds, this waitlist shall bother me till we know for sure what happened.
So it’d be great if we all could contact them through the course of this week and post on the group, so that we all know as soon as possible, since decisions are otherwise sent by mail and that will take forever.

Hahah it’s the first time I’ve ever had a dream like that. Man, my rep has only replied once after my first email.

Yeah it’s going to bother me too. I emailed my rep Friday asking if there was any new info lol. I’ll let you know if I hear anything back!

In the meantime, where have you all put deposits down at? If I don’t get off the waitlist (cries) I’m going to William and Mary.

Why mail? Hello someone tell Brown that they’re in the age of technology and should email this.

I thought they called people??

They only call if you’ve been accepted.

So pray for a call lol

1,589 students have committed. Even if 50 students changed their minds they would still be over enrolled by a few dozen.

There is almost no chance they will use the wait list. Hard to accept but that’s where we are.

Rejections should start coming in next week. With very few students being told specifically that their application is part of a select few that are being considered for z-listing.

I would honestly be okay with z-listing. That’s how crazy I am about getting into Brown.

@musicislife1595 Thanks for the input!

I can’t afford to z-list though, already took a gap year. I’m looking at a transfer if they don’t use the wait list. They did say the may likely only select a handful from the wait list too though. Fingers crossed.

How did your gap year go? I’m considering taking one if this waitlist stuff doesn’t work out.

@mchen013 It was amazing; it really helped me clear my head and focus more on myself. I would not have applied to Brown if I had not taken it.

What kind of challenges come along with taking a gap year? I’ve read a little about it, and I think I read that you have to keep in contact with your high school and teachers to get recommendations and stuff. Also, isn’t it harder to transfer than to reapply after a gap year?

I’d guess that 30-50 or more accepted students will opt for a gap year, as my son did two years ago. The procedure for this is to write a brief essay on what you expect to do during your year off and then get the formal OK. This process takes a few weeks to complete, so Brown probably won’t know how large the gap-year shrinkage is until early June at best.

If I get accepted off the waitlist at Brown then I don’t think I’ll be taking a gap year. It’s only if I don’t get off the waitlist. That’s an interesting procedure though. Would they consider it a good use of a gap year to go to China and learn karate?

I would totally accept the z-list… I am already considering taking a gap year. But it does seem they are still undecided about what they are doing with the waitlist. Got an email saying decisions are being made this week. Cant wait for all this anxiety to be over…

1) Brown Admitted students going to other schools, getting off the waiting lists.
2) Brown Admitted students taking a gap year.
3) Brown Admitted students still negotiating with Financial aid matters but decided not
to attend Brown.

If the total of the above were greater than 74 (1589 - 1515 let’s say), Brown should use their waitlist for Class of 2017. I think we still have some chance, but really “Handful” waitlisting appllicants only. I also think they will not come to the waitlist until June, not this week.

Everyone should go through last year’s wait list thread, the situation was very similar to this year’s.

here’s a quote from one of the posters:
“I have been told by my admissions officer that a small number of students(including myself) are still being evaluated in case some spots may become available… Currently 1575 applicants enrolled, but some of them are planning to take a gap year and some might be taken off of another school’s waitlist… If we look at previous years we can see that Brown has also over enrolled for the class of 2014, but eventually 5 students were taken off of the waitlist and some were offered spots in the class of 2015. I truly hope that they will have a spot for me at Brown … All I can do now is hope!!..”

Meanwhile others in the thread were posting that they had been rejected.

I think its safe to say that the majority of us will here bad news very soon. But a few of us will be told to hold on in case any spots open up.

Its really just luck right now. If they need more kids from x or more applicants who have done y, that is who will get in.

posterguy! I don’t mean to offend you or anything but alot of your posting is very pessimistic. only a few of us will make it through so the least we can do is be optimistic about it.
