@gloriouschicken. Definitely too overqualified for BU to handle.

ACT: 29
GPA 3.66 not sure if it was weighted or not.
top 20% of the class,
lots of extracurricular activities: Section leader of band, Vice President of National Honor Society, some clubs, Girls tennis, and 400+ community service hours.
My supplemental essay sucked… think but my common app essay was awesome
Never visited the college,
I got in to CAS for Biology specialization for neurology
I didn’t get much for financial aid. Actually none from BU. Only from fed.
I really want to go here. but I don’t know what to do because it’s so expensive…

I was somehow accepted to their CAS but I couldn’t be happier
I think it was my ECs that did it, and my pure interest in the school, because my GPA could be a lot better… but congrats to everyone who got in! I’m most likely going to end up going here because I got a decent amount of aid.
Go Terriers :)

@gloriouschicken, literally the same thing happened to me. I got into more competitive schools and I was flat out rejected from BU and i have 0 idea why. a few people in my school were accepted, all have much lower stats than i do and weak ECs, so like… ?

Accepted to School of Management
Gender: Male
Race: White
ACT: 32 (33 Writing, 34 Math, 34 Reading, 28 Science)
GPA: 3.8 unweighted
Rank: 34/505
8 AP Classes (Literature, Language, Chemistry, Biology, AB Calc, BC Calc, German, World History)
All honors classes besides AP Classes (Excluding Electives)
Activities: President of Senior Class, Captain of Varsity Lacrosse, Varsity Football, Member of Youth Council for the county, member of FBLA, Soccer Referee, various club sports, member of other clubs, National Honors Society, Math Honors Society
Good Recommendations I think (I knew the teachers very well)
Denied for Trustee Scholarship (wasn’t surprised about this)
received the Dean’s Scholarship (10,000/year)
I was a surprised I received so little. Was it because of the school I applied to? I was a much better applicant than someone in my school who received way more money than I did.

I never visited campus, contacted admissions, or opened up a single email they sent me. My “Why BU” essay was short, bland, and incredibly generic.

I was accepted to BU SMG
I don’t think they care too much about stated “interest” in the school.

Does anyone know, for those accepted, if they send out official acceptance letters in the mail?

Accepted
SMG
:)

88% grade average
28 ACT
4 AP’s: Environmental Science, Art History, Calculus AB, and Economics
great recs, decent EC’s but nothing spectacular

I visited campus, but my “Why BU?” essay was extremely generic.

College of arts and sci,
2030 SAT 29 ACT
Enviro sci
3.75 GPA
Not going, going to NC state univ

@dmichelle2014 I think they probably won’t, they mentioned something about not wasting paper online. Plus all the FA stuff is online, so there’s really no need

GPA: 3.3 W (my school does not do weighted)
IB Diploma Candidate: HL math, physics, chem and SL Lang & lit, Spanish and Business and Management
Quite a few extracurricular and community service activity
SAT 1: Math(640) Reading and Writing(610) to give a total of 1860
SAT 2: 800 Math 2 and 790 Physics
Good teacher recommendation letters from my Physics and math teacher. Physics and math were my highest grades at 92(A-) each.
International student from India but studying in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

But in the end I got wait listed. Maybe they have a specific quota for international students.

@dannyphantom My son goes to NCSU - 3rd year engineering student. We are happy with the school and even as an out of state student, the tuition is less than half of these private schools. My daughter was just accepted to BU so we will feel the financial pain soon - most of her top choices are private schools.

Got in :)

-Race: Hispanic/White

I don’t know if I’ll attend though, it is still very expensive…

Got rejected- 2120 SAT, 4.15 GPA, 33 ACT, 17th in my class (top 3%), plenty of extracurriculars and a moderately hard course load, stellar reccomendations…
I really don’t know what went wrong. I’m devastated.

@standardizedcarl…I am so sorry…I know this might be hard for you to understand at this point in your life, but you will end up where you are supposed to be. I know what you feel as my son was flat out rejected from his first choice school…time will heal your pain and one day soon, this will just be a distant memory! Some school out there is going to be really lucky to get you!!! You have stellar stats!

@standardizedcarl

Don’t listen to the nonsense you’ll hear from posters like @stephmark3
aww don’t worry you’ll end up where you were “supposed” to be

Yeah… right. Like there’s a magical predestined track in life that you’re stuck to like some sort of demon train engine.

Obviously, it sucks to get rejected. Even more so when your stats are considerably higher than their averages.

But it doesn’t pay to be devastated, man. Keep in mind that so long as you are ambitious and determined, what school you went to really only matters for your first job out of college. After that, it’s all experience. Contrary to popular opinion, your college does not determine your future career path.

So I’m not going to lie to you and say it was “meant to be.”
Heck, you probably could have done something better. I got rejected from my safety school, which was a generic state university.

It sucks. But if you’re an A Player, you’ll excel at whatever college you do go to. Think of this as a minor setback that won’t even cross your mind even just a few months from now when you’re at a different school.

I agree with stephmarks… It’s interesting that you call what she says “nonsense” and then you basically say the exact same thing using different words. Your post was pretty rude and uncalled for, by the way. You don’t have to agree with what everybody says but you should learn to be tactful.
