My daughter got into BU’s Communications - wants to study film. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is for that program. Curious since she did not get into Chapman’s program. They had only an 11-12% acceptance into their film program this year. BU has a great program, but unfortunately gave 0 financial aid. I guess they think we’re rich, but we definitely cannot afford to pay full tuition. She’ll likely go to another college that gave her some scholarship money.

^MassAnonymous: I would guess there is a dearth of middle class students at BU…those with family income too high to receive financial aid, but who really can’t afford the tuition without significant hardship (we have three children and don’t expect to see one dime in financial aid).

Accepted!

SAT: 1820
GPA: About 3.6 Unweighted

Major: Biology (Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, & Genetics) to the College of Arts and Sciences

Rejected, not even on waitlist, SAT 2120, GPA 3.89/4.23 and didn’t even file FA. It’s a safe school, but still confused.

deleted

I was shocked to find out i was wait listed. I had a 3.7 unw. 4.1 w and 2020 SAT and plenty of extra circulars including 4 years of varsity football and basketball. I also took 6 APs. I applied regular decision, so i thought maybe that was the reason why I got wait listed.

Looks like I’m going to BU. I got really nice financial aid, so I’ll end up paying only about ~$10k a year.

[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Denied/Waitlisted everywhere except BU and Umass. I should’ve applied to more match schools.[/li][/ul]

@lakshay. I think you should work harder on your SAT scores. SAT scores are a predominant factor getting into any top university. That said, your recs and essays do play a vital role. GoodLuck!!!

@dexter25 BU weights school performance more than test scores ( according to college data) My DD got in with 1520 SAT but UW GPA 3.92 ( She has test anxiety) She applied to all schools who weighted academics over test scores, all top 50 schools

@Jssaab1. Nice to hear you DD got into BU!!! Sorry if you misunderstood me but what I meant was that most schools including BU determines a candidate’s strength from test scores like the SAT. UW GPAs are somewhat inaccurate since several schools have different grading methods and some are actually INFLATED scores, this is so significant especially when it comes to international students…to stay safe, score high in the SAT…

Looks like I can finally breathe a sigh of relief!

Reflection
Strengths: ACT, AP classes, GPA, Class Rank, Unique work experience
Weaknesses: Extracurricular activities
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Grades showcased rigorous courses, essays focused on how my experiences as a third culture kid/ military serviceman made me different.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: UPenn, Duke, Boston U, Northeastern, University of Utah, College of Idaho (free application, lol)
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Waitlisted/Denied by UPenn and Duke. Accepted into Honors Program at BU, Northeastern and University of Utah. Those who want to apply should focus their essays on what makes them different. Transcripts are self explanatory, they want to know why you’re a better fit than the others who look exactly the same on paper.

Accepted with a W.GPA: 4.33 U.W: 3.75 and 1970 on the SAT.

Weighted GPA: 3.8 out of 4.5
1810 in my SAT (720 M | 570 W | 520 R)
I applied and got accepted into the College of Arts and Sciences for Computer Science :3

I’m not a particularly outstanding candidate and I was genuinely surprised when I got the letter of acceptance; however, I’m not complaining and I’m happy with this

Guys, I will be applying this fall as early decision, but I would like to know what you guys recommend me to do. I have a 3.8 GPA but the problem is that my scores are not high. SAT: 1420, ACT: 19 I seriously want to go to BU but my scores are making not want to apply ED and to just go for RD. What do you guys suggest? Thank you
