Official Cal Poly Class of 2015 Decisions Thread

Does anyone know… have any rejections been sent out?? Also… will we not see any chance until Tuesday because of the holiday weekend? I am starting to think I will not be accepted because it seems like many Liberal Arts acceptances have already been announced :(

There seems to be no method to their madness. I know people who have been accepted with borderline stats and other with great stats have not heard anything. I have a feeling the admissions office is going to get a lot of calls on Tuesday.

@Pinata: The two main factors are the high cost (I don’t know how much aid they would offer but I don’t expect much, being OOS), and the Calif budget problem - specifically the talk about people having trouble getting into the required classes they need and potentially not being able to graduate in 4 years.

So, the housing is first come, first served? And the housing applications come out on March 3rd!!!? How am I supposed to decide by then if I haven’t even heard back from some of the schools I applied to?!

^^^SLO does that on purpose so the people who really want to go to SLO decide so.

D is a freshman at CP so I thought I’d throw in a few pointers.

Housing is on a first come first served basis. Even if you are not 100% committed to CP it is a good idea to sign up as soon as you can. Last year you could withdraw your housing application until some point in mid August - the penalty was minor - around $50 or so. Also, the benefit of getting into the housing queue early is that if you change your mind about a particular dorm or roommate you can make a change and NOT lose your priority.

After D’s portal changed to ‘congratulations’ it took several weeks for the snail mail to arrive - in a small envelop - no funds spent on glossy heavy mailings.

The original acceptance is always ‘conditional’ and this will not change until your final transcript has been received and processed. It was a bit unnerving to still see the conditional status in mid June. I called several times regarding this issue and basically it just takes them a bit of time to process the mass influx of transcripts arriving early June.

And, sadly yes, the food truly sucks. However, the rest of the experience makes up for the culinary shortcomings. A bus pass is included with the cost of tuition so you’re never to far away from downtown and a good (reasonably priced) meal.

Good luck to everyone.

dietz199- So basically what you’re saying is that I can accept my offer of admittance even though I might go to another school??

hey lilanzkid 123, I was wondering when you got accepted. Did your portal change today? Congrats! Do you guys think acceptances will start again on Tuesday?

I have a random question and I don’t wanna create a whole thread for it. The Cal Poly app asked for our A-G GPA, right?

@sparksfly: Yes, the Cal Poly app asked for our A-G GPA.

**Decision: Accepted **

General Comments: I really can’t believe I got in! I wasn’t planning on going there, but it’s a lot cheaper the than other schools I’ve been thinking about and it seems like a really good school, so I think I might end up going there.

hey sparkfly, I applied for communications also. Do you know what day exactly you got in? Thanks for any help! Congrats.

also, one more thing, did you find out through an email or on your portal. Thanks!

abasic- I couldn’t figure out my portal information until last night, and when I went on the portal last night it said I was accepted. So they probably posted it on Friday? And there was no email sent to me, I just found out on the portal. I think everyone who hasn’t gotten acceptances yet needs to keep in mind that Cal Poly has thousands of applicants and they probably can’t send out all of the decisions at the same exact time.

sparksfly: When will you know about the other decisions? Might it be before CP opens the housing registration? But yes, the CP system will let you back out up to a certain date. If you do accept and then later change your mind I would encourage you to withdraw your acceptance as quickly as possible. Someone on the wait list will be very grateful that you did. good luck!

I’m really nervous as well… Three or four people I know personally have heard, but I haven’t yet: I applied with:
GPA: ~3.7
SAT I: 2100 (one sitting: R 710, M 620, W 770)
SAT II: Bio 750, Literature 660
Other stats: Varsity soccer 2 years (captain senior year), 200+ volunteer hours, Grand total of 7 AP classes.

and a declared sociology major… but I haven’t heard anything yet. I had a slight issue where I had to make up a class my junior year, so now I’m really focusing on that and thinking that the make up class doomed me :(

dietz199- I’m hoping that I will know about my other schools before March 3rd, but nothing is guaranteed. I think I’ll just do the housing application and stuff because I’ll most likely go to SLO, and if I’m really not going to go there then I’ll just back out of it ASAP. I’m so glad that they allow you to back out of it!

Unless you apply ED, there is no binding contract. But, as dietz199 mentioned, if you decide NOT to attend Cal Poly after all, be sure and let them know of your intentions so others on the waitlist will have a chance. Of course, you should email a note to ALL of the schools you’ve chosen not to attend even if you DON’T accept their offer of admission early on. It’s just the polite thing to do. ;)
