the act just has to get there before February assuming your doing regular decision, I’m taking the December act and although they don’t guarantee it being there on time my chances are apparently VERY good.

http://www.calpoly.edu/~acadprog/99pdf/admissions.pdf

page 54 top right:

it talks about student, parent, and counsellor signing an ED paper.

i never did this… i just did the electronic paper on the app. was i supposed to do something???

also, it says dont send transcripts, and some other things, but it doesnt mention sat scores. if i just self-reported them on the app, is that fine?? and we send em later to verify?? i just sent them, but is that right im thinking??

In the Early decision section, I think you left out “if accepted”

Hi guys, what do you think my chances are?

Major: Animal Science
GPA: CSU weighted 3.44
SAT: 1400/1600, 2150/2400
ACT: 33

-All my classes in high school have been honors or AP
-I’m president of my 4H club and captain of my varsity swim team and committee head in my school’s business club. I also work 10-15 hours at a job related to my major and I volunteer each weekend.

Good luck to everyone else who applied!

wow waterisbest, we’re identical. same SAT / same GPA. our SATs own, and our gpas are just alright.

i say i have a 60/40 chance. but im a business major.
id say you have about an 80/20 chance cus your going into the agricultural school which is easier…

u hav a great shot!

but then again you never know, with the economy and the UCs raising tuition by 30% lots of people are gonna find cal poly to be very attractive.

goodluck!

Yeah, we all made a pretty good decision going with ED. Now we’re (hopefully, if accepted) not judged alongside the influx of people that are more than likely going to apply to SLO after the UC tuition rising.

Intended Major: Animal Science
SAT: 1190
ACT: 28
GPA: 3.64 (this is 10-12, it’s a shame they don’t count Freshman year since I got a 4.0!)

I wish Cal Poly had an essay. They don’t get to see what kind of person I am. If they only knew how badly I want to go there… I’ve wanted to go to Cal Poly SLO for my entire high school career. I visited it as a Freshman when my sister was visiting colleges. Since then, I have learned my way around the city and campus when visiting my sister. I love the town and atmosphere, and the “learn by doing” philosophy. I’ve met five professors from the animal science department and it seems so cool. I also wish I could explain my extra curricular activities more. I have a dog sitting business (check it out: vanessasdogsitting . com) and also have volunteered at a veterinary clinic over 200 hours. Plus, I’ve played soccer for four years, cross country for one, and a swim team every summer. I’ve also been on the same club soccer team for six years now, which is year round.

I want to go to Cal Poly so badly. I’m right in the middle of the test scores and GPA, so I hope I get in. I just found out today they might notify you before Dec 15th so that makes me nervous…

Does anyone else feel the same way???

Actually, Cal Poly does use your 9th grade grades.

Did it say that in the Cal Poly application? Because I read it several times, and now I’m looking over what I printed out after I submitted the application and I don’t see it. I was looking it up and you are correct. I’m not sure what to do about that now, but I read that Cal Poly calculates your GPA themselves so it isn’t that important. I hope this doesn’t affect my chances of getting in.

Also, I just read that they base the admission off the test scores you enter, but when I submitted the application I didn’t know my test score for the ACT or the second time I took the SAT. I entered the date but not the scores since I didn’t have them. I did send both SAT and ACT to Cal Poly. I did bad on my first SAT…

Yeah,on the app, it will only ask for 10th-11th grade gpa,but they will go back into your applications and add 9th grade as well. And of course, they redo gpa anyways so you’re fine.

I’d send in your sat/act like ASAP though.

I sent in my ACT and SAT scores already (through the “Send your scores” on collegeboard and on the ACT website), but I didn’t enter them on the application as I had not received my scores yet.

Sorry I’m so clueless. I want to make sure everything is OK. Thank you so much!

oooh, hmm…my guess would be that they would receive your scores. But I’d email them next week or so just to confirm. Have a happy thanksgiving!

its almost December everybody!

Anyone hear anything ED yet?

My stats:
Civil Engineering 1st choice
10-11 GPA - 4.0
Honors/APs in all math and some science
Top 5 High School in San Diego County (STARS/API/SAT scores)
Lots of Cal Poly grads from my District
Work experience related to major
Varsity Sports + lots of other Ecs
SAT score 1180 not a good test taker
Any idea if I have a shot?

RBLAX: Is your SAT score just math + reading? It might be too late to sign up but you should really take ACT. I got 670 math and 520 on CR, but I got 28 on the ACT which I think is a lot better. I didn’t do any prep classes/books for ACT or SAT and ACT was significantly easier. My school is also high ranking (73rd in country I believe). I don’t really know if you have a shot but I know that engineering is super hard to get into. I know that some people have heard from Cal Poly already.

REALLY???

sorry,caps.

Sorry, what are you referring to? Also, what’s your name? We both are applying ED and you helped me out so we can let each other when we hear the news, be it good or bad!

^^^ people have heard back for ED?

I applied to Cal Poly ED

Major: Chemistry

Test Scores:
SAT I: CR: 640
M:630

GPA: 4.3

It’s nice to see that other people are as excited as I am to hear back! I haven’t seen any other Chem majors…interesting. Any thoughts on my chances?

some people have already heard from ED?

im pretty nervous, and i regret putting 11-15 hours of extra currics when i should of put 16-20, which now that i think about it is more accurate. if i get deferred ill email them and ask them to change that.

abb, that’s an awesome gpa. thats about the average sat score, plus an awesome gpa, so u have a great shot. however, with the economic crises and stuff i wouldnt call it a for sure in. i say you have like a 75 - 25 chance tho. ;)

goodluck
