Stumbled upon this site yesterday. My son couldn’t access the portal and had to wait till today to gain access. So reading through and seeing scores was both reassuring and nerve wracking!
He was accepted!
Computer Science
4.05 GPA
1420/1600 SAT
Found out that at least 6 of his friend from his school were accepted as well.

Some of my friends got in yesterday for engineering, I haven’t gotten my decision yet and I’m worried I won’t get in even with a major that isn’t really impacted.

For us, the congratulations email/video with the link to the accept/decline button on the portal arrived the next day after the acceptance message was visible on the portal.

For those of you who are worrying about not receiving an e-mail notifying you of your Application Status:

Be sure to check your Spam box! I followed Cal Poly’s suggestion to add ecoms@calpoly.edu if you had a Gmail account, but Gmail still sorted the acceptance e-mail as Spam. Check carefully and don’t mass delete your spam for the next couple of days in case you accidentally delete the e-mail!

Accepted into General Engineering
10-12 GPA: [W] 4.61/[UW] 3.93
CSU GPA: 4.21
SAT: CR: 690/M: 680/W: 670
No ACT
Class rank: 16

I will have taken 17 weighted classes by the end of senior year…

I was just curious if anyone knows if there is a maximum amount of credit I can get from AP tests. I’ve already taken 5, and I’m slated to take 7 this year. If I can’t get credit for all 7, I’m definitely going to be picking and choosing which tests I’ll be taking this coming May! Of course I’ll have to cross-check my major’s requirements with what the AP tests fulfill to see if they’re worth my while, but I just wanted to check if there’s a credit cap from the start. So far, I haven’t read anything about them, but I could have missed something…

Yeaaah, I’m thinking a little bit into the future, but might as well know now! P:

Can any1 help me. I don’t understand why i wasn’t accepted.
SAT highest for both CR and Math is 1460/1600.
9-11 gpa weighted: 3.97
10-11 gpa weighted: 4.05
major: Comp Sci
Volunteer: 6 hrs a week
I’ve accepted that i didn’t get in, but i’m not really sure why i didn’t get accepted. Any input on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It seems like CS was very very competitive this year, as always. It’s a relatively small department, about 450 total undergrads. Only about 130 first year students will be matriculating into the major in 2014. Your grades look good, your test scores look good, how was your high school schedule w/respect to rigor?

thank you for the input. Yes i was deferred to RD.
9th grade: no APs can’t take any
10th: AP Euro
11th: AP physics B, AP United State History, AP Lang
12th: AP Physics C, AP civics/gov, AP macroeconomics, AP Calc AB, AP Psych, Ap Lit
I have not finished senior year yet. My high school schedule may not be the hardest, but i do think it is pretty rigorous. What irritates me is not that i didn’t get in, it’s that i’ve been looking at this thread, and people were posting that they got accepted to ED with the same major and with worse stats than me.

Hello I am sorry you didnt get in for comp sci. Something about you app must have not clicked or something. I am honestly suprised you didnt get in with that rigor, grades, and scores. I guess comp sci is so competitive that someone like yourself- who can probobly get into any UC- gets deffered… Think about it this way. Around 130 people will end up going as first time freshman to slo for comp sci. On the website, it said they will be accepting around 10% of students in the early decision. If this is for majors, then that means the might only select around 13 for ED! But that also means 117 for regular decision! I hope you are one of them…

Thanks for your input! Yeah i was a bit bummed that i didn’t get into ED for slo; It’s a great school! Hopefully i can get into it for RD, if not i hope i get accepted into UCI at least. I don’t really think i can get into berkley or La but there’s always a chance.

I think you can get into UCI for sure. Berkeley and LA like high SAT. Dang college is getting so competitive. You will be fine no matter where you go, dont worry- especially with a comp sci degree- known by employers as the degree of the future.
