**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO 2014-2015 Early Decision**

@Charri39 in your portal the wording will remain the same with the exception of the early decision part. It will be missing. It means you have been rolled over to regular decision.

I got in!!!
Major: Software Engineering
GPA: 4.31
SAT: Reading: 610 Math: 570
ACT Composite: 26
I’m curious as to what everyone else’s statuses are:)

can you chance me for Regular Decision? I got deferred.

white female in-state (San Jose) but moved to the U.S. 3 years ago from Croatia
Computer Science
CSU GPA: 4.05
weighted GPA: 4.1
SAT Reading: 520 Math: 670
ACT Composite: 26
15 hrs for ec and 1 leadership position

@Charri39‌ Unless it says “thank you for applying for early decision”, you have been deferred.

Also just curious, how is that even possible to have 21+ hours ECs and 21+ hours work? Thats over 42 hours a week on top of school? Seems impossible.

@prubic I think your SAT/ACT are a little low, especially for computer science with how competitive it is.

@Frankpet
Congratulations! What are your stats?
ACT?
GPA!
In state?

@nfisher‌ I think it’s hours per month, but I could be wrong

@biofio but do you think that admission takes priority over academic courses and GPA rather than SAT scores?

@‌calpoly13 What do you think my chances are getting in RD?
Here are my stats again:
White/female/instate (Bay Area)
Intended major: Nutrition
CSU GPA:3.75
SAT:1010
6 ap/honors
21+ hrs for work
21+ hrs ec and leadership position

@Emily833‌ I’m 99% sure it’s per week

@Charri39‌ Its hard to finds stats for nutrition admits! But I saw that someone from food science had a 3.6 and 32 act and was accepted. On the cal poly target sheet for 2013 they had 517 applicants and 55 were attending for nutrition. That doesn’t mean only 55 got in tho, it’s just how many said yes. On CP profile 2014 Total Ag/food science average gpa 3.82 sat 1236. But that is including all majors. And I found the Cal Poly 2013 census brief it states that 3.72 avg gpa, 1159 sat and 25.5 act. Did u take the ACT?
Cal poly will look at your weighted GPA, test scores and class rigor. It looks like you have a great chance of being admitted. Good luck!

@charri39 Have you looked at this link from last years stats?<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

Do you have all the “recommended” coursework? They show the “required”, but Cal Poly wants the “recommended”. I think if you have all the recommended coursework, you have a shot. My daughter was short a math class and had to take it at a Community College to satisfy the “recommended” coursework. My daughter applied to BioScience with a CP GPA 4.19 SAT 1220 ACT 29 (super score) and was accepted. Good Luck to you!

@dietz199‌
S’s stats?

Is there a link that shows how many BME applied for ED?

@prubic‌ Everything I know about the admissions I learned from the sticky (keys to the kingdom 2), but I think that GPA is probably slightly more important than test scores. In terms of rigor, the most important thing is how many math classes you took (the more advanced the better). Your SAT still matters a bit, though. However, there are a lot of factors in the decision so I would just hope for the best. Good luck! :)

I took the ACT but I got a score of 21, it was pretty bad. I studied more for the SAT and took the December test, will they look at those scores if I send them in? Do I need to send in my ACT scores too? Thank you so much for all your input :)

My son has been accepted as an out-of-state in Software Engineering with:
ACT:30
GPA: 4.4+
9 AP

For the Deferred applicants though, I would point out the page @CaliMck15 posted above. Only 1/3 of next years freshmen will have come from these “Early Decisions”. And of those offered admission, only 1/2 will accept, so even if you only get wait-listed off of standard decision, your chances of are still pretty good. Obviously if you were denied Early Decision, you will need to now hedge your bets by applying to “fall-back-position” schools (and unfortunately, pay the application fees for those), but if your heart is set on CP, and your scores and GPAs are in the ballpark (within a standard deviation of CP’s posted means/medians) I am guessing you still have a pretty good shot.

The worst thing is of course now having to play the waiting game for another few months.

^

Huh? I am absolutely perplexed as to how you can make these 2 assertions.

1) Cal Poly’s yield rate isn’t 50%. According to the latest data available (for the freshman class entering fall 2013), 4,871 enrolled of 13,953 admitted. That’s 34.9%.

2) Of the 1,603 applicants offered a spot on the waiting list for the freshman class entering fall 2013, only 15 were admitted. In my book, those aren’t “pretty good” chances.

Data for 1) and 2) are from !IR Home | Institutional Research; page5.

I would concur with @Lecter Some anecdotal evidence of this is the later posts on the class of 2018 RD thread - VERY few applicants were selected off the waitlist and this is only indicative of a small sample of applicants who post on CC. I would not count on an acceptance off the waitlist particularly given the growing interest in CP SLO. IMHO, nothing would be sadder than a student holding out hope and foregoing acceptance at another good institution thinking they can eventually get in this way.

@Charri39‌ don’t send the ACT unless your math and english scores were high on the ACT. They superscore the math and english so that will bring it up. But only if it brings it significantly higher. I’m not sure when they stop accepting the test scores. I do know that they will take the best scores from both SAT tests and super score those. Admissions at Cal Poly are extremely helpful. Don’t hesitate to call them and they will make sure everything is good with your application. Good luck!
