@mncoca Waitlisted with straight A’s, 10 AP tests, and a 33 ACT? Doesn’t seem likely.

@mncopa What other colleges has she been admitted to?

She has not taken all 10 tests yet. Five AP classes this year. I do not want to give away too much information but she has been accepted to 7 other schools. None of which are in California. We moved here when she was in middle school and she would actually prefer a colder climate. Cal Poly seemed like a great education for the money so she applied.

She certainly took all of the “required” classes but did not fulfill all of the “recommended” (.ie. extra English and a 4th year of foreign language).

I only posted here to let people know how difficult it is to gain admission to Materials Engineering regular decision.

My friend’s son was waitlisted (for chemistry) with similar stats - he also opted out of 4th year foreign language and history in favor of taking additional science. I’m sure it didn’t occur to him (or his parents) that it would count against him.

These would be great topics for the parent page.

Thanks for the info mncoca.

nutthins - They won’t leave that no determination up there for two months. That should be resolving itself shortly. You are either in, not, or waitlisted. It would be torture to keep people hanging with no determination for much longer.
Since they admitted thousands more than they need, it takes quite a while to get to the waitlist, but a person won’t remain in “no determination” status much longer.

@Lmcleod1 did you end up finding anything out?

I agree, the “no determination” status will likely change by the end of this month. My point is that if you get on the wait list, there’s still a chance. How slim of a chance, who knows. But, even reading some of the UC threads, the randomness is still there. You see students with low and high stats getting accepted. It just doesn’t make sense to us outsiders regarding the method used to determine admissions, such as the holistic approach or essays used by UCs, or the “pity points” given by Calpoly. On last year’s thread someone got into UCLA with a 24 ACT and the gpa wasn’t that great either. I’ve stopped trying to figure out how the decisions are made by any of these schools. So many great students out there and not enough spaces for them!

@53polo Yes I did end up finding out. The lady seemed annoyed for one, but I do not blame her as she probably has to answer that question ever other call. I was told that every major at SLO still has acceptances being sent out, and they plan to be sending the until yet again, a week and a half, so hopefully by the end of next week.

I just got a text from CP saying that the housing app opens tomorrow. Are they really gonna give the unfair advantage to everyone that has already been admitted? Doesn’t seem right to me to make some applicants wait longer to hear back and then punish them with a lower priority housing standing.

So were all Mech Engineering slots filled through ED? I haven’t seen any RD instate Mech Eng acceptances on this thread.

@Minnymom All of the majors still have acceptances being sent out through next Friday

Well y’all, we have reached 100!

There was one instate ME on the 21st when they released the majority of engineering. Maybe you are right about it filling up during ED or maybe they just aren’t on this board. My humble thoughts - be happy if you make the wait list for any engineering. I think the ones they let in probably have lots of other offers, too so maybe more spots will open up as they won’t all choose CP. Maybe they were extra conservative on acceptances this year.

100 pages!!

@Lmcleod1 No wonder if we hit another 100 pages with this ■■■■■■■■ admission process. March 31st will be the end to it

@Lmcleod1 thanks so much!

I’m pretty tired of the whole situation. I decided to act as though it is a rejection and focus on other schools unless I hear. Wishing everyone good luck!

@bullcomp yeah, it sucks! I can’t believe it! I turned in my transcripts to WSU last week, and was accepted yesterday, just if SLO was that fast!

@53polo I wish you luck as well! It is so tiring! I have decided that I too am going to focus on WSU instead!
