S reject, MechE

S reject, MechE

This was a long shot (very low GPA), so not surprised. Congrats to all accepted!

D rejected bio 4.4 GPA. What sucks is her brother was accepted last year for EE with 3.8 GPA! However to put things in perspective of how things could be worse, her grandmother (my mother) was diagnosed with lung cancer today. In the grand scheme of life this rejection just got softened, the hard way.

Rejected BME

My son was rejected about an hour ago. He came to realize through this whole process that he really liked Cal Poly and would love to go there. He has gotten into Cal State Fullerton and a couple of other colleges.

I attended Cal Poly back in the 1980s. I have a minute, so I’d like to share my experience there:

I had no idea what I wanted to do, and started at Cal Poly at the age of 17. I’m very analytical, so I chose Biology with the intention of becoming a researcher. Wow, what a bad fit it was! I desperately tried to get out of Biology after one quarter. It took about six quarters to realize that it would be impossible. During those two years, I had tremendous trouble getting classes (basic ge classes in particular). And it doesn’t look like it’s much better now. So a couple of quarters later (stupid me), I finally went to the community college, took the required courses for business, and transferred back in. If you look back, you can see that during my graduation year, Cal Poly had a 7.9% 4-year graduation rate. The quarter that they “let” me back in, they only let one freshman into the business program. I graduated with a full year of extra units, mostly horrific biology with lab classes. Sigh.

I got a great business education at Cal Poly, however. I went to USC for my MBA and did really well. My point is that there are other ways to get through Cal Poly, and maybe by the time your son or daughter is ready to apply again (if that is the case) they’ll see other, more promising options for themselves. Good luck, and Camama is right.

Not selected BME. Refocus time:)

Congratulations to those have been lucky enough to get in and have endured this ride.
