@UCapplicant2897 - that reddit post is regarding someon who spoke with the Dean of the School of Agriculture. I don’t know if it means that all applicants will be notified. I certainly hope it is soon - my D is applying School of Engineering. yikes!

doesnt make any sense unless they are dedicating that day to take a big trip to USPS and drop off letters in the drop-off bin…
Surprised there aren’t so many trolls on here. Like right now I could say I know a guy and engineering decisions released next Tuesday at 11 and 30 thousand people would believe it.
Also I could say I got my decision today and everyone would freak out. Basically just don’t trust everything on here because you never know what’s real and what’s not.
T–r--o–l--l–s is a bad word apparently
It is very possible that he’s lying but from his post history he seems pretty genuine and active within the subreddit. Doesn’t seem like he has any reason to misconstrue us. It being sent out on Sunday was likely just a miscommunication. However for all the worried applicants and parents it is helpful to possibly have insider information that results will be released next week.
FYI there are no “letters” sent out. Notification is through the portal only. Last year we requested a letter after acceptance; it took several calls and emails to the admissions office but we did finally receive it.
true^. I didnt get my acceptance letter for a long time last year. I just checked the portal when everyone started posting.
Is it true that Cal Poly rejects overqualified applicants simply because they believe that they will choose a better school? And if so, what constitutes being “overqualified”?
There is no such as “overqualified”. Cal Poly admissions is simply a numbers game. A person can have a 4.2 and a high SAT score but that doesnt mean they’ll get in. A person with a 3.5 and a mediocre SAT score can get in before a 4.2 gets in. It depends on many factors due to mandated points through the MCA scoring process. That is all the information I can release out to the public at this time; until decisions post.
joogman23, can you give us some insight about when exactly we can expect the decisions to post?
arriba, I can not say for sure. I can only tell you that from the past threads they were posted this week last year. From what it’s looking like, they have been delayed and will be posted anytime by this Friday or mid next week at the latest. I can not point out a specific day. Hope this helps.
Who are you? You talk as if you’re in the admissions office. I don’t mean this in a mean way but I’m really just wondering why you ended post #231 like that.
@ArsenalFan69 I work closely with Transfer students heading to Cal Poly, essentially the School of Business. I do not specialize in Freshman MCA only Transfer students.
@ArsenalFan69, @joogman23 is right. Various forms of the MCA (something like Multi Criteria Algorithm or Admission, can’t remember) have been publically available, likely not on purpose, since they tend to disappear after a while. Academics and ECs are only part of the equation. Applicants can get significant boosts if they live in certain areas (Cal Poly catchment area), are from a disadvantaged background as evidenced by one or both parents not completing high school or attendance at a Hayden Partner School, are themselves California resident veterans, and finally are children or spouses of Cal Poly employees. It creates a situation where a person with a lower GPA and SAT/ACT might end up with a higher MCA score that someone “more qualified.” The very highly qualified candidates who get rejected do so because of a missing application requirement, usually a full year of performing/visual arts. There are WAY too many very highly qualified candidates who get in for that old myth to hold any water at all. If the did reject highly qualified candidates the average engineering GPA couldn’t be 4.08 out of a maximum of 4.2. That includes several engineering departments that aren’t very competitive to get into and thus pull the mean down. Hope that helps clarify. Good luck.
Do they only consider your CSU gpa? And if so would a student with 4.0 CSU gpa applying with a biology major stand a good chance? (29 ACT)
@minks24, they use the same formula as the rest of the CSUs, but also include your freshman grades. Biology is very competitive. If you’ve taken math through Calculus AB or BC, lots of lab sciences and lots of English, that will help. Your ACT will likely be below the Bio average ACT, but it’s only one piece. As long as you have the rigor (lots of math, eng, science) and your freshman grades don’t hurt you, I’m guessing you’d be competitive. Good luck.
This report from the LA Times indicates a 28% acceptance rate of Cal Poly early decision applicants (about 1000 of 4000 applicants accepted).

I guess that means 47,000 first time freshman regular decision applicants will be fighting over the remaining 3,500 or so, spots not awarded through early decision. Not encouraging. Note to future applicants… consider early decision… Cal Poly is not a safety school.
