**OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO CLASS of 2019 Regular Decision** Thread

My son is applied for comp science in state and we haven’t heard anything yet either.

I just called calpoly admissions and asked… if other people have already gotten into your major does that mean that you probably didn’t get in or maybe are waitlisted? The admissions woman said “Absolutely not, we in fact make admissions decisions for every single major up until April 1st”

@je9015 and @fancymecharm, on Monday In-State engineering majors started posting acceptances. The acceptance threads continued on until late that night and some the next day, although I think they were all released on Monday before 7pm. Those who reported acceptances after 7pm on Monday were very likely those who checked the portal after 7pm. The Portal does not indicate a date or time when the acceptance was issued. It just appears on the portal, so someone who has not checked the portal daily won’t really know when it was posted.

Both Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering reported acceptances on Monday, including my son.

I hope this helps. I know its not very comforting but it is wise to start focusing on other viable options at this point.

@fancymecharm‌ Yes. I’ve had a few classmates who have been accepted to Civil Engineering as well as a few on this thread. I applied for Civ E and still haven’t heard back yet.

Okay so I accidentally said computer science, I meant to say computer engineering haha; has anyone heard anything for computer engineering?

@5nonnegotiables if that admission person is correct, then I think this whole admissions process is cruel. Especially for those who see acceptance threads in their major and nothing for them for days or weeks!

Any child delopement majors hear back? Does anyone else even have this major from this thread?

@caligirl4eva‌ I am also a child development major and have not heard back yet

@arriba so i spoke with an admissions adviser, and if you don’t believe it then you should call yourself, because she specifically said not to worry even if someone from your school even has been accepted to your major and you havent, because

“…in fact we make admissions decisions for every single major up until April 1st”

Okay well does anyone know when people find out if they’re wait-listed? Is it when they send out the rejections?

@fancymecharm‌
Last year waitlist decisions came out around 2/27, and acceptances came out starting 2/14. Rejections came way later, on 3/10

For those who have received acceptances - CONGRATULATIONS! That is awesome news!

I think it’s irresponsible and cruel to make judgments and strong statements to others who have not heard to move on. Just because you have been accepted does not mean the process is over. And how is rolling out acceptances cruel? From a logistical standpoint, rolling out acceptances eases the resources on the system as well as personnel. I am sure they are rolling it out as fast as they can. Unless you are in a position to specifically have the facts, I think it’s best to refrain from assuming based on an acceptance you received. Thank you to the parent who called Admissions to get a statement from the horses mouth so to speak.

So thank you to all those keeping it positive and hang in there. CalPoly is an amazing school!

Is anybody viewing this thread an Ag Systems Management major?..anybody hear of any acceptances in this major

Does anyone know of Physics coming out??

are there any Agricultre and Environmental Plant Sciences majors on this thread?

@ngtco2014 Sorry, I just saw your question (unlike a Facebook “tag”, I didn’t get a notification that you had asked me a question! I don’t know how that works (when you put someone’s user name in a post…I just happened to come across it today!) So, in response to your question, it was Liberal Studies in College of Math and Science. Good Luck! You have great stats!

I had called Cal Poly SLo’s admission office today too and had asked the same question as @5nonnegotiables‌ and basically got the same answer. I also got the info that they are still reviewing some applications (and will continue to do so until April 1) and are sending out acceptances on a rolling basis. Happy to hear that but now that I think about it, how can they still be in the process of reviewing applications when they award acceptances based on those with the highest points? Wouldn’t they need to have processed all the applications first to see who has the highest points for a specific major? And if admissions are based solely of awarded points, why is there still a need for reviewing applications manually?

WARNING: FRUSTRATED PARENT RANT

Ugh…I agree with other parents this is such a frustrating process and if this is how Cal Poly does business it may be a long 4 years. I have 2 college students and what a difference in schools that WANT your students and those who could really care less. Cal Poly is my students first choice. She overextended herself junior year to meet all their expectations and requirements. My student applied on 10/2/14 of early decision. To date we have not received any communication from Cal Poly besides her portal. She told me last night that she has now given up all hope and even if she does get in she will not likely go because she will have last choice of housing, classes, and future classes.

Every week we receive multiple communications from her second choice school. She is fully registered and accepted at UNR with her classes, and she got her first choice dorm which is brand new. All she has to do is say yes. They really want her. We have already paid 1000.00 to UNR while Cal Poly takes its own sweet time.

I have only seen one Journalism acceptance posted.
I called admissions and records and they said that there is no method to their releases. Not by school, not alphabetical
Regardless of Cal Poly’s decision we have elected not to go to the open house as most of the local hotels are already booked .
For a school that supposedly leads the industry in public relations and business they really have a great deal to learn.

@CSUMOMx2‌ I have friends who also applied early decision and have yet to hear back from CP, even though I have as a RD applicant. Not sure why this happens. I do believe though (and someone with more direct experience might be able to confirm) that they didn’t receive a notification that they were deferred from ED, their only indication was that others had been accepted and their portal status hadn’t changed yet.

@CSUMOMx2, I can totally understand your rant. Cal Poly has strengths and weaknesses. Applicant/Student information processing isn’t one of the strengths. The class registration process has multiple web sites just to teach you how to use the main one. With that said, students figure it out quickly. No school is perfect. On balance, CPs pros seem to outweigh its cons.

Problems aren’t unique to CP. We knew a student who was accepted to Harvard and Yale, but rejected by his first choice, Stanford. One of his HS classmates who had a much lower GPA and SAT scores got into Stanford. He was a legacy.

The bottom line is that too many students are applying to too few schools. Cal Poly happens to be one of the hot ones.
