Official Caltech 2012 Transfer Thread

Is there a Caltech Transfer thread?

I'm just wondering when the decision will come out.. (although I don't dare expect an offer...)
Are there any guys applying for Caltech as well? know anything?

Best wishes to all.

Yes I applied lol. I took the transfer exams over spring break haha.

I’ve received an email this morning which indicates the decision date will be at the beginning of May. Good luck to all…

I like the word choice: “an offer”.
Did you apply or come from a British school?

I have applied!

Took my transfer exam Monday and Wednesday.

How do you think you did? I am taking Diff EQ and E&M right now so there were a few questions I had to leave blank.

I worked out all the math problems and about half of the physics…= =
But anyway, I still kind of thinking that the exam weights not too much in application evaluation…

No, I think it does considering they don’t require SAT scores for transfers and it is a way they can evaluate your math and science skills.

The entrance exams are pretty easy. However, I do not think they really care a lot about exam scores. Research experience is more important

Fairly easy, but very broad… which I found a little difficult. I took DE, Linear, and Mechanics over a year ago, so that stuff wasn’t so fresh.

Can’t wait anymore

Hi guys !

I applied too. I know I won’t get in…
As for the transfer exams, I thought the math was a joke, although there were two problems I totally messed up on(I took calculus two years ago back in high school, and things like special integrals and series convergence tests weren’t that fresh). The physics was doable, but again, there were mistakes that I shouldn’t have made…nevertheless, I was able to work out almost all of it leaving one b-i-a-t-c-h part of a problem in mechanics.
I know I will be rejected, as I don’t have any research experience. I did two independent studies with my professor, who I know has written me a kick ass letter of recommendation, in Analytical Mechanics and Quantum Field Theory, but I know that they don’t mean anything…
I’m nervous, but I don’t know why, because I already know that I’ll be rejected. Just tell me already that I’ve been rejected, Caltech !

Can you share the information for the guys who apply to Caltech for transfer?

For me, here is my stat.

4.0/4.0 2years CC
(my first year in CC)
physics major
EC: Physics Olympiad Bronze Awards in high school years. Math/ Science Club Some volunteering clubs, AMATYC college top 5 ( I know that this contest is very easy, though). Some highschool EC.
SAT : I don’t think that my SAT score is not as much as the other applicants who got 2300+.
SAT2 : 800,800, 700 (math 2 and some sciences related to my major)
Classes: physics thermodynamics/optics, modern physics (Mech and E&M is cleared with AP exams)
Freshman English class
Some GE like speech and Social Science and philosophy.
Diff. eq. Calculus etc… not yet linear algeabra.
Chemistry is cleared with AP exam.

hey guys… let’s share… when I called to Caltech, they said that it will be released within next week!

Transfer decisions relased!!!

Not in. Oh well, didn’t want to go anyway.

Rejected…but I knew that would happen.

wait…how did you guys find out? By mail or by email? I applied too but I just haven’t heard anything…weird…

Check your e-mail again, it might be filtered in your spam mail box.
If you cannot find it again, you should call to admission office by phone to check your status.
