[]Essays: Meh. Didn’t really like them when I turned it in. My diversity one was good. I thought my Why Caltech one was kind of iffy but I guess it worked. I don’t want to give too many details.
[
]Teacher Recs: Should be good. Asked my chem and English teachers. I think chem was probably the better one. She told my parents I was the best student she’d seen in a while.
[]Counselor Rec: Probably generic. She had us fill out a survey with things we thought she should know about us, so it probably looked better than the really generic ones.
[
]Supplementary Material: Had an extra rec from my coach.
[]Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): Won a Nobel Prize in 10th grade, went on to get gold for the 100m dash in the Olympics, and then traveled around the world filming for my documentary about monasteries. That’s sarcasm for “no”.

    [
]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Well, I don’t know. Just relax, because worrying won’t make a difference in the decision. If you’re truly worried, do something. That’s probably easier for me to say, but you get the point. Also, for underclassmen, if you really really want to get into college, my opinion is that being well rounded doesn’t really work. Be really good at one thing. It doesn’t matter what it is (drawing, music, sports, video games), as long as you show that you have passion. Of course, take my advice with a grain of salt… I’m not the admissions committee. [/ul]

[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: I’m honestly stunned. I’ve been in trance for the last few hours since the decision came out. With my weak test scores, I was certain I would be rejected or at the very least deferred. I suppose Caltech saw something in me that I had not yet discovered myself. Congratulations to all who were accepted. To those who weren’t, do not be discouraged. Regardless of where you end up, you will succeed and thrive. Without risk there is no reward. If I didn’t take a risk, I wouldn’t have been accepted to Caltech. [/ul]

[/ul]Subjective[ul]
[]Essays: I spent quite a bit of time on them over a few months. I think they were a great representation of who I am and how I would contribute to Caltech. I admit that the “Why Caltech” essay was a bit unoriginal, but I still think I did a decent job on them.
[
]Teacher Recs: Both were teachers that I really liked and liked me in return. I think that their recommendations were nothing short of exemplary.
[]Counselor Rec: Doesn’t know me very well, was probably pretty generic.
[

    ]Awards: National Merit Semifinalist
[li]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/li]Obviously, I’m super into academics and have great test scores. However, I wasn’t completely surprised that I was denied. It was a bummer, yes, but Caltech must receive so many applications that it’s difficult for them to decide who to admit. Congratulations to everyone admitted, and no worries to everyone denied! There are plenty of fantastic schools out there. Hopefully I’m admitted to MIT on Thursday
    [/ul]

Good job everyone who got accepted! And don’t worry if you didn’t get accepted because I truly believe that it’ll all work out as cliched as that sounds.

[]Essays: I lived in the College & Career Center for a few days to write these, so I hope they were strong lol. I think my ‘Why Caltech’ essay was especially strong. (Fun fact: I misspelled ‘raccoons’ on my personal statement. Who knew there were two c’s?)
[
]Teacher Recs: I hope they were good, one teacher asked me what my GPA was the night before the EA deadline.
[]Counselor Rec: I went through three counselors in the first few months of school for some reason I don’t know, fortunately counselor #3 and I had a meeting, albeit only one. I made sure she avoided writing things that I knew my other recs would already write.
[
]Supplementary Material: I had an additional rec from my manager at my internship at Boeing, which concerned me for a while when I remembered that I told him I wouldn’t do the internship for a second time (yikes), but I guess he wrote a good rec! Also, funny story: I totally forgot to self-report my SAT score and my future IB tests, so I had to submit them as supplementary material after I already submitted! I was such a mess lol
[]Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): Being gay? I wrote about it briefly in the diversity short answer.

[
]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: I knew my test scores were pretty good for my school, but I’m pretty sure they’re subpar in comparison to most Caltech applicants. It’s crazy to think that some of y’all have published research papers and I’m struggling to finish a report for my physics class. Hope some future applicant realizes this and realizes that a few small mistakes and imperfect scores can’t stop you! <3[/ul]
