In the past, from what I found out, the med scholars notification came out separately from the EA notification. Apparently they should not have filtered people out yet unless you didn’t get into caltech EA. I’m going to call caltech tomorrow to ask and see.

Hey, how do i join the official facebook group? I got in EA so i really want to see who else did lol. I can’t find it under the name Caltech Class of 2017

There’s a link to it at the bottom of the admitted dot caltech dot edu page.

Hey, Caltech should have sent out Medical Scholars application instructions to your emails. They sent it to me yesterday. For future reference (i.e. applicants in future pools), wait about a week after Caltech sends out the EA notifications to contact them if you have yet to receive it. Sometimes, they take a bit longer to get things sent out.

When we’re uploading recommendation letters…how exactly do we do it? We aren’t supposed to read them. Do we give our letter writers our caltech portal access info?

Accepted

Stats:
SAT: 2380 (single sitting)
SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Chemistry

Rank: 1/~600 (lol idk kids drop out)
Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): AIME Qualifier, 5s on 7APS, 4 on Spanish

Subjective
Essays: Yep, I spent time here…maybe a little over-passionate but it was strong
Teacher Recs: Amazing, Humanities had lots on emphasis on strong character, good friend, anecdotes about being the school klutz and anti-bullying episodes (do not attempt if you are not a female btw, boys have this weird thing about not hitting girls)…prbly why they picked me I think. Caltech is big on character
Counselor Rec: I don’t know…I bug him a lot…but I think he likes me?
Supplementary Material: Like three research papers, an RSI Rec letter, robots and electronics designs, sketches (pretty good).
Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): RSI 2012, ISEFX3 some special awards+3rd Place, published DNA sequences(2x), USAJMO, My school doesn’t really support anything like this so I fundraised for everything I do (lots of cookies), founded robotics, mock trial , Acadec, amc club, started Calc BC…

Advice?: I am very sure I got in on my character. I work really hard at anything I do, can get people to join me in starting stuff…so my advice? work your butt off sure, but be a nice person (this has other benefits too :P)

College admissions are so scary and it’s only August lol

Loved the encouragement. My son had great credentials and was deferred too.
It feels terrible! I just wish he had applied regular decision so he could then at least get some acceptances too. Now we just have to wait…
