Official Candidate???

The Class of 2009 profile, as many of you may have seen, looks like this:

Applicants (includes nominees) 11,259
Number of applicants with an official nomination 4,320
Nominees qualified scholastically, medically and in physical aptitude 1,812
Offers of admission 1,503
Admitted 1,220

Now my question is: Is the applicants column (11,259) the number of people who submitted pre-applications or the number of people who became official candidates? I was just curious, because the Annapolis trailer says 50,000 apply. Thanks

I dont think 50,000 students apply to any specific school.

....I hope my statement made sense....

That was what's known as "poetic license" on the part of the filmaker and it has been discussed(and chuckled at) before. It's still one of the toughest schools in the country to get into.

If I hear another "fact" quoted from "Annapolis" the movie, I'm going to have a brain hemorrhage.

The 11K, as far as I know, is the number who requested a PCQ.

there are facts from "Annapolis"???

Ha ha..NO...but a really good picture about the Academy(tho quite old...1937) was Navy Blue and Gold. It's shown on TCM from time to time. James Stewart, Robert Young, Lionel Barrymore. They don't make em like this anymore.

PS:TCM is showing some classic military films this weekend.

wasn't there a tv show about USNA? Back in the fifties?

It was called "Men of Annapolis" and another called "Men of West Point" by ZIV productions....

I think the 50,000 is the number of cards they get requesting more information. (the first thing most people ask for)

I've spotted your problem.
