Weighted GPA: 4.5

Job/Work Experience: Part-time job for the past eight months

Summer Activities: Summit Debate speech camp
Teacher Recommendation: I haven’t seen them, but they were written by two teachers that I am very close to that are very well known for writing outstanding rec letters

Intended Major: Undecided, but I want to go into education
State (if domestic applicant): Montana
School Type: Public, about 1,500 students. Only IB school in the state

Strengths: Extracurriculars and community involvement (demonstrated achievement in both areas), leadership positions, teacher recommendations, essays, my sister also went to Carleton
Weaknesses: Test scores

General Comments: I am really thankful to have such luck in the application process. Carleton is a great school, but I do know if I will end up in Northfield. It’s hard to imagine myself going to my sister’s alma mater instead of making my way somewhere new. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted and good luck to those who are still anticipating a response!

Reflection
Strengths: Stdized test scores, ecs, essays
Weaknesses: GPA, possibly class rigor and ecs, possibly recs?
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly don’t know. Carleton was atop my list of colleges; I was seriously upset when I learned I had been waitlisted.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted: UVM, Centre, Kenyon; waitlisted: Rice; rejected: Swarthmore
General Comments: Carleton is quirky, I’m quirky, Carleton has a superb academic team, I have excelled in quiz bowl in hs; I really thought Carleton and I made a good match; I don’t understand what disqualified me from acceptance by C-ton? I’m still upset and dismayed by my waitlisting. I did everything in my power to express interest in Carleton, including sending an update in February, in which I said Carleton was tops on my list of schools; can anyone shed some more light on why I mightn’t’ve been accepted? Is my GPA really that poor?

THIS IS ALL I SEE IN MY PORTAL! - it changed to this a couple of days ago…They also added important dates over to the left.

This isnt very promising. Carleton was SUPER reach though. lol :P

Well, my portal is just the same as yours, jking2jam and I’m international. I’m really worried about it too. It seems like ones who’re accepted or waitlisted have already received their emails and the ones who haven’t… I just can’t think of it.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 800 M, 750 CR, 770 W (2320)
ACT: Did not send in
SAT II: 800 Chinese, 800 Chemistry, 800 Math IIc
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.98
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School does not rank (But I was told by my counselor I’m in the top 2%)
AP (place score in parenthesis): European History (4), Chemistry (5), Environmental Science (5), Calculus AB -self-study- (5)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus BC, AP Bio, AP Physics B, AP Psychology, AP Literature, Jazz Ensemble, American Gov’t (regular) - Relatively rigorous, but I enjoy it.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): USNCO Finalist, NMF

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Jazz Ensemble (9-12) (Section Leader, 1st Tenor 11-12) I have received some soloist awards at some regional/state festivals; Marching Band (9-12) (Section leader 11, Woodwind Captain 12); School Site Council (11-12); Track and Field (10-11)
Job/Work Experience: Kumon tutor during sophomore year; UCSF research intern during summer after junior year
Volunteer/Community service: “Library Teen Summer Reading Volunteer” since 7th grade; Hospital volunteering (11-12); Peer Mentoring (11-12)
Essays: CA short (kinda bad) was about peer mentoring. For CA long (decent), I talked about an epiphany I had about Jazz improvisation. My Carleton short essay was decent.
Teacher Recommendation: I didn’t see them, but I believe both were decent, if not pretty good. One teacher had offered to write me a letter a recommendation, and the other had selected me to be student of the year even though this is my first year with her.
Counselor Rec: I imagine it was good.
Additional Rec: None
Interview: It lasted about an hour and a half and I thought it was pretty good. I had met my interviewer at a previous Carleton info session, which probably helped as well.
State (if domestic applicant): CA
School Type: Public (Class of 600ish)
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: M
Income Bracket: No aid for me… =/
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): …err just 1st generation immigrant. Not much else.

Reflection:

Strengths: Stats, extracurricular involvement and passion (from my perspective at least)
Weaknesses: No major awards
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My interview and stats probably helped. I was also invited to ToC in October (unfortunately it conflicted with marching band), and I had a lot of correspondence with the admissions office.

For prospective students: Pursue your interests in high school, but try to keep your stats up as well. Show interest in the Carleton by going to info sessions and emailing the admissions office.

Congrats to everyone that got in!

Is there any international student who has received the acceptance decision through his/her portal?

If yes, so maybe only who got rejected have not received the decisions yet. :frowning: unfortunately, I haven’t received any decision, tracking number (as last year) or even email from Carl yet.

@binhnd
I am not technically an international as I have a green card, but I live outside the US. I got an email and found out about my acceptance through the portal. Try emailing admissions. Hope you get in.

Has anyone received the decision through portal so far? I mean, after this:
“We continue to enter all documentation that we receive, please check back for the most current status of your file. We do have to hand-enter some information, so please allow a little time for this”.

International here.

Tonight (around 5 pm their time, I believe?) we found out that Carleton was a no go for me. Through the portal.

I even emailed admissions and they told me that my package was FedEx-ed and asked me to check my portal. Ironically, my decisions has not been there yet. Some of my friends who were wait-listed was told their decision on previous Sunday.

I’m thinking that Carleton has ignored me =))
