Official Carnegie Mellon Class of 2020 Applicants Discussion Thread

Applied MCS for bio (hoping to concentrate in comp bio). Good luck to everyone!

Applied for industrial design. Biggest fear is my portfolio. I think my review went pretty well through.

Does anyone have “Application Instruction Book” under “Admission Documents Sent” in the portal?
Is it sent by postal mail or e-mail?

@HungryJohn I received the Application Instruction Book in January. It was sent by postal mail.

@deepblueocean Thanks! That makes sense because I haven’t received it yet and I am a international applicant.
Do you mind telling me what it is mainly about? Is the content the same for all applicant?Does it mention something very important?

@HungryJohn I’m an international and I didn’t receive it either, but if you google it, cmu uploaded a pdf version that you can read here:

@aznraffe Thank you!

On my application status, my application was marked as complete before my alumni interview report was uploaded. Does that mean Mellon has reviewed my app without knowing that I did an interview? (My interview report was uploaded 10 days after my application status was marked as complete).

Under application documents sent, it is mentioned :
“25-jan-2016 Adms Interview Confirmation”
But I never received,at least not yet, any invitation for interview …any thoughts highly appreciated

@Puchku Call em

Can it be because I had registered for the 'overnight turn tartan ’ event on 24/25th Jan which eventually got cancelled due to the snow storm?
I will call them the first thing in the morning ,thanks @ XAtlas

Do all applicants get interviewed? Or only for some of the CMU schools?

@ReminiscingDad The interview is what an applicant should set up for himself/herself. CMU says that an interview is not requited, so I didn’t do one since I really couldn’t get to a place for an interview. The interview is for showing the school how much an applicant is interested to the school. I’m pretty sure, however, that you cannot have interviews at this time.

I submitted all the required forms for FA to IDOC and IDOC says it was processed and made available to the institutions requiring it. JHU had been missing just the tax docs from IDOC (it had other IDOC stuff) for a couple days but now it says they received my tax docs too. CMU has some IDOC stuff but it STILL says they do not have the tax docs, and I am really worried. Should I call? Or is the portal just slow to update?

@NICE8x I am currently trying to resolve the same issue. I submitted my IDOC forms last Sunday, and CMU has only updated the Where Am I page with my waivers. I called admissions last Wednesday and they said they’ve been experiencing a lag with updating the Where Am I page, and that they were able to view my IDOC documents. If you can, call in later today and check to see if they can view yours.

Sorry if this was already answered but does anyone know the decision date (even just a prediction)?

Last year it was right around 3/26…

@deepblueocean , do you or anybody else know when decisions come out? thank you

@ReminiscingDad I am not 100% sure about it, but by looking at previous years’ decision released dates, probably around third week of march (march 20-26).
Here is the link where it talks about it: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1853138-admissions-notification-dates-2016-p7.html
