[] ACT:
[] SAT II: 800 Math II 790 Physics 790 US History 770 Bio
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Not sure, not given ~3.5
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Not given, maybe top 40%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): AP courses not offered at my school. APCS 5 (semi-selfstudied)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis):
[] Senior Year Course Load: Honors math, Honors advanced physics, English, History, Comp sci, engineering (humaniaties do not have honors level)
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): NMSQT commended FTC Divisional Finalist (CMU didn’t hear about this) Regional CS competition wins ACSL National Qualiffier
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): football team, (science olympiad), grade president, computer science team, lots of other minor ones
[] Job/Work Experience:Held job at tech startup for last year or so…
[] Volunteer/Community service: probably 200+ hrs of random community service at soup kitchen and elsewhere.
[] Summer Activities: 3 Nols trips and working at startup
[] Essays: 8/10 common app. 5/10 CMU (I’m not a great writer and I really regret how bad this essay was, I thought it was fine at the time but I just reread it and I really hate it)
[] Teacher Recommendation: Physics and History, probs really great.
[] Counselor Rec: -
[] Additional Rec: From employer, I imagine its stellar.
[] Interview: None (I regret this as well)

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): NY
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Private, Top 20 in USA
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: 250k+
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nope
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Standardized test scores minus SAT I writing, interesting
[] Weaknesses: Supplement/Grades
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think I was probably waitlisted based on my supplement/grades. Mostly my ty supplement though.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accept: Purdue/Wisconsin/Georgia Tech/UCSD/Rice Deferred: Michigan Rejected: Stanford/UCLA Waiting: Cornell/Penn/USC/UCB

[/ul]General Comments: I’m kind of really upset right now. I really loved CMU, it seemed like the perfect place for me. I wish my essay could of reflected this more. I’ll try on the waitlist but it seems pretty unlikely. Life goes on though. Hopefully this all works out in the end. If there’s one piece of advice I’m going to tell kids in the future it is take some time away from your essays before you sent it in. I sent mine in with time remaining because they seemed great at the time and now I really really profoundly regret it. Good luck everyone!
