[]Where else were you accepted/rejected?: This is my first acceptance/rejection.

[]Essays: Everyone who read it (Parents, Aunt who works a lot with college admissions, teachers - AP English and Newspaper) adored my essays and said that I did a great job of answering the question while putting my personal spin on it, etc.
[]Teacher Recs: Although not positive I am pretty sure they would be really good. Math teacher of two years, Chemistry teacher of two years and Newspaper advisor of two years.

[]Gender: Female
[]Extracurriculars: Robotics -Marketing first year and Mechanical next two years, Business Manager of Newspaper two years, NHS member all three years available (Officer junior year), ran a multitude of tutoring programs from second graders to 12th, I was the assistant volunteer coordinator and desk manager at a local dog adoption agency that I had been helping out since I was in fifth grade.
[]Awards: I got the AP scholar with distinction… not really sure what that is but I guess it is a good thing.
[]Where else were you accepted/rejected?: Haven’t applied anywhere else but if anyone wants to chance me for UIUC and University of Michigan that would be great. I think I might make a post over at those threads.
[/ul]Reflection:

Strengths:Good recs., good essays, I have been through a few engineering programs for example: Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation and a computer programming class at a local college.
Weakness:low GPA (due to inability to attend school for long periods), average to low SAT scores

General Comments: I was not surprised at the rejection, disappointed yes but not surprised. Especially after seeing eipin1 who has obviously way better stats than me and lives in the same area was also rejected from the program I was certain that I would get a rejection, and what do you know an hour later the mailman dropped off my “we regret to inform you…blah blah blah”. I got over it within 10-15 minutes (since I had been expecting a rejection for the last few weeks) and am now working on my other applications. I really hope to get into Umich or UIUC because I don’t think I want to go to GMU which is my easiest and safest option at the moment. Although I have been living in a city I hate for the past 17 years so I guess I can handle 4 more years of this torture. But seriously if you guys could chance me for those to schools it would be much appreciated. Anyway CONGRATS to everyone who got in! And for my fellow rejects its okay because we will get into another school and it will be the school we were meant to be in.

eipin1: I also find it surprising that you didn’t at least get a deferral. I have seen people with way worse stats and a lot less EC get in to ECE… but I guess everything happens for a reason right. Also I find it hilarious that no Northern Virginian can ever say they are from Virginia we always have to add in the northern because their is legitimately a huge difference. Good luck on your future endeavors.

Vulkan, from what I read on the schools site when I was looking up info before applying is that when you apply to ECE you can get rejected from ECE but still into CIT (because ECE is one of their most competitive majors). You just won’t ever be able to transfer into ECE. If I remember correctly.

Ahh, that makes sense. However I heard that you can still transfer into ece even if you don’t get in as long as you take the ee course freshman year. I thought I had a pretty good shot with ece, but now after this guy posted I’m not too sure. Guess I’ll find out soon.

Not quite. Vulkan heard correctly :). Everyone comes in undecided to CIT and if you’re very set on being in ECE all you have to do is take the intro course and do well (B-A. Beware that it’s a weed-out course: very hard). I was restricted CIT admit but got in to ECE by showing interest and effort.
Good luck to all!

What do you mean by restricted? Also, what do you mean when you say everyone comes in undecided? Does that include those who are admitted to ece?

I applied for Civil Engineering and got an acceptance letter for every program in CIT except for ECE, because you have to apply specifically to that program to get into it. Don’t worry! A LOT of people transfer into the ECE program apparently, and some even transfer into SCS (this is coming from talking to a friend of mine who went there). It’s really all about your first semester GPA, so just don’t overload your classes and stay on top of your game and you’ll be fine!

So basically, don’t worry about your ECE application because of my stats, I didn’t apply for that program so I didn’t get in. There are no implications on your application whatsoever!

I see…that’s a bit of a relief. Hopefully the fact that I work for Microsoft and build computers as a side thing will help me out with ece. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

Hey everyone!
I applied to CMU for ED as well and I got the letter today in the mail which said I wasn’t accepted. I was just wondering if this means that I was rejected or if I was deferred (I am wondering if I can apply again for regular decision). I tried calling but I found out that the office is only open Monday ~ Friday. I will call for sure this upcoming Monday but if anyone knows for sure, I would appreciate the answer. Thanks and good job to everyone who did make it in! :)

[ *]Counselor Rec: similarly, I often consult my counselor for advice so her impression of me must be positive
[ *]Supplementary Material: my essay showed a lot of interest. heck, i harassed the office of admissions frequently. I also participated in sleeping bag weekend.

[ *]Where else were you accepted/rejected?: early decision.
[ *]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[ /list] I was wavering between expecting deferral and acceptance. I show a very strong sense of color and technical skill in my portfolio but I was concerned that I didn’t display enough pure design skills or process work (which I heard they like). I also felt that my portfolio interviewer was apathetic. As for my academics, during the on campus interview my interviewer explicitly told me that I have some strong scores and statistics for my intended program- that they would be no issue to my acceptance. she essentially said that as long as cfa approved of my portfolio, I would be accepted.

So happy that I am though CMU is the one place where I’m getting to explore all the dimensions I want to! See you in August, everybody! And to the people who got rejected, it really isn’t the end of the world. Do well at whichever school you go to, and all the best! (Sorry, I know it’s a bit clich

A year ago my friends were recieveing decisions while I was a small junior looking to repeat their success the next year. For the next 10+ months I worked as hard as possible, drastically increasing my courseload while taking almost every possible standardized test so this day would come, the day I know where I am going next year. It is amazing to see the fruition of all this work and I cannot wait to join my fellow classmates next year. Juniors browsing this forum: remember that with perseverence, anything is achieveable
