Accepted

ED to Huntsman and College (got in to College)

Sunny San Diego, CA

No legacy or anything of the sort

Do not wish to disclose

Speech and Debate diety, if I do say so myself (I attached a supplement and videotape). Editor in Chief of Literary Magazine (4 yrs). Chief of Staff of Student Gov't. President of Gay Straight Alliance (4 yrs). Varsity Academic League (2 yrs). Worked on John Kerry Campaign (a bajillion hours as regional director of registering voters). I do a lot of other things but I never put them on my app (comm. service, tour guide, etc...maybe they were in recs?) A pleothora of awards, including Nat Merit Semifinalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, 5th in nation on National French Exam 2004, French Honor Society since 9th grade, Girls State, chosen as school's representative to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Conference, Speaker of the Year at high school for 3 yrs, one of the top 60 speakers in America, lots of speech awards

I had really funny essays (I'm Polish...needless to say I had a lot of material to work with). I probably had most excellent recs, and my scores, tests, gpa, were all very very good, but honestly...I think it was all about my essays. So amusing.

wow.... all the confidentiality... but congrats! and you beat me by one place in last years French Exam!! look forward to meeting you - and everyone in class of 2009!!! WOOOOOOO

why the f wouldnt you disclose?

how dumb.

I dont' want to sound snobby or annoying by not disclosing those things, but I just think that they are personal. I'm the kind of person who never tells anyone about my test scores, or how I did on a quiz...not even my relatives or best friends know statistics like that. I envy people who can tell people stuff like that, but I just can't!

I usually don't tell my scores because I'm embarassed by them.

Now I have ED what ifs.

I've been thinking all day of whether I would get into Brown, Swarthmore, and Columbia....

Kids at my school asked me for Penn app advice... I feel so cool now.

i cox for women too. did mike lane tell you that you were in the top 2 or 3 coxswains? cuz he told me that there was one or two other coxes who were getting heavily recruited. i just cant believe that they would reject a recruit. im really sorry about that.

ah its ok. I know i wasn't officially recruited but i was supposedly coded on my application. here is what he said when i told him i was flat out rejected...

"I am very sorry to hear that. That is the problem with Wharton, it is very hard to get in and it is hard to get them to deferrer people that we could normally get deferred in the college. I am really sorry to hear that because I think you would have been a great asset to our program."

but its not like i was even that far off from the statistics or nething. i mean, another girl at my school applied ED to wharton toooo and she got deferred with worse stats than i have. ah well. im moving on and giving my other apps to my GC today.

I know you are feeling very down about your rejection and this is very understandable. With your statistics and the coding of your application one would think you are an automatic admit or at least deferral in case another athlete backs out. The ivy league recuiting is unusual because the coaches are very limited in their ability to help with admission. If the coach is not 100% backing the application, rejection is often the case. You may have even had more of a chance not being on the athletic list because the coaches are only given an exact amount of recruits and if you are not one, you are often deleted. I think it will be best for you to now attempt to find a school where the coach will give you a 100% commitment.

Also, if you applying to any other Ivy Leagues, ask the coach for a likely letter. I think they can offer one in January or February.

Can you apply to Wharton and indicate if you are not accepted that you still wish to be considered for Penn?

Wharton is Penn. You have to choose either the college, Wharton, egineering, or nursing. No second choices

Well, as if I didn't feel bad enough for not applying to UPenn even though they wanted me to run there (I didn't think I'd get in academically / 1320 SAT, 3.9 GPA). . .my ex-girlfriend's best friend just got accepted early with an 1160 SAT. ::sigh::
