Official Chances, Have my list down to 8 schools

Uh yea, some match schools?

actually you're right, UVa didn't publish it, George Mason did. As an hispanic, you have an ever so slight edge. According to that study, with your SAT scores, you'd have about a 55% chance of admissions in 2003. considering UVa's average SAT scores have dramatically risen in the past few years (this year the 25-75 was 1280-1490) you probably just around a 50% chance of admissions.

hope this helps. http://www.ceousa.org/pdfs/VAS%20Report.pdf#search=%22UVa%20admissions%20by%20race%20black%20hispanic%20white%22

50% is ballin. Thats basically a match?

A kid i know got in to UVa OOS SAAS Hispanic with a 1310 3.8 WGPA.

Well. Maybe I spoke too soon. you're still OOS, and the vast majority of hispanic applicants are probably instate. I wouldn't be surpised if you got in - but I wouldn't be surprised if you got rejected either. I could very well see you being waitlisted.

Like I said, its a reach for you. There are 3 possible outcomes - acceptance, waitlist, rejection. a waitlist is basicly a rejection. I see you more likely getting waitlisted or rejected rather than accepted - but of course you have reasonable a chance of getting in. Its not as if you were applying to harvard.

In other words - I can't say its a match for you, you'd need better scores or instate residency. Its just really hard to get into OOS.

IMO, someone with your stats, a "match" would be a school that you're approaching, at, or above the 75%ile with your SATs scores OR you're in the range and they accept more than 50% of applicants. A safety would be both.

Like which school for my stats?

i dunno, just open up a USnews book at look at the SATs and admit %. they're all listed in a nice neat orderly form. then check the schools websites for updated information. Remember you took the new SATs and those scores inthe book are for the old SATs. some schools scores changed a bit. For example UVa and Michigan both experienced about 50 point increases in average scores this year.

off the top of my head lehigh, bucknell, tulane, wisconsin, illinois, connecticut college, union college

for georgetown, legacy does give you some brownie points but that's about it unless your parents have donated more than six figures to the school

Which is why the Hoya released an article saying that legacy students are admitted at about a 40% rate?

Oh and found out today that I'm getting a rec from an Italian professor at GTown.

affirmative action, you should apply to higher ivies n see what happens. i think rice should accept you.

I think the hispanic advantage is limited to Mexicans and kids from poor Central American countries. Also, you read too upper middle class to get adcoms to see you as a URM. You may want to tone it down.

I'm Colombian.

Tone it down, how?

I got into BC with around your stats

What did you mean by tone it down? I'm not about to feign being some impoverished innercity latin american kid, there is something sick about that.

Can I get some supreme elaboration on my shot at BC and NYU?

UMD- match
Boston College- slight reach
Georgetown -reach
UVa- safe
Northwestern- reach
Columbia-reach
Rice-safe
Tulane- safe (i applied there too because of the free ap lol. hey, why not?)

Yea, Rice is not safe.

Does it help that no Hispanics have applied to BC, NYU in 4 years from my school.

One was accepted to UVa last year with a 1310.

I know this from my school for a fact those are the exact numbers.

ehhhhhh, bump

umd - safety
BC - safety
georgetown - match
uva - match
northwestern - match / reach
columbia - reach
rice - match / reach
tulane - safety

Bowdoin? for the Romance Language major?
I'd probably turn in my 5 on AP Italian, 760 World History SATII, and 700 Math SAT I as my standerdized tests. The school seems desperate for Hispanics. And I really absolutley love the school.
