****official Chances Thread 2013****

Ok. Because I am comletely tired of all of the chance threads mucking up the discussion board (my own included), I propose an official chances thread. Here is my suggested template, but you can deviate if you wish:

SCHOOL APPLYING TO / EA or RD:

GRADES (GPA UW):

SATs (2400/1600):

SIGNIFICANT ECs/Awards:

SIGNIFICANT EXTRA INFORMATION:

Again the purpose of this is to ask what your chances are and to get feedback without making the discussion board look like chances soup. I am extremely nervous (much like the rest of you) about this admissions season, but I think we can contain our nervous energy inside this thread box!

I hope you guys agree! And let the chancing begin!

Ok. First of all let me say that I am the SAME PERSON as interelations09, but for some reason I can’t log on nor recieve password change information, so I do know a little bit about what I am saying. I think you have a really good chance at getting accepted into Georgetown. The only thing thats holding you back is the crapshoot of college admissions, which sometimes means that it is just unlucky to not get into a college. Good luck though I am sure you’ll do great.

Mission trip to Alabama? What did y’all do here? It seems kind of funny to me that someone would go on a mission trip to my home state, but there are definitely a lot of places that need it, unfortunately.

Aside from that, you definitely look like a strong applicant. Your grades/scores are solid, and your ECs look really good. You definitely have experience in business (starting your own nonprofit, internships, etc.) that you could play up as a business school applicant. Good luck!

Georgetown College EA
White Male
Kansas

Stats

GPA 4.68 Weighted (where “honors” classes get 5.0)
3.9 Unweighted
All A’s except first semester freshman English, and fall semester of Calculus BC.
(I did precalc during the summer before my freshman year so i could skip ahead into BC. I received A’s for that course from the University of Missouri: Columbia.)
I took Latin I extracurricularly (is that a word?) my sophomore year because it wouldn’t fit into my schedule.
Given my blocks being filled with Band and debate all four years, I have otherwise maxed out all possible departments from my school with the exception of a couple science IIs. (Bio and physics)

Rank: 12 out of ~450
but that should go up after this last semester of all A’s. There is no way for me to check over the summer.

ACT: 35
SAT: 2180, 770m, 740cr, 680w
i plan on retaking the SAT, and i still need to take SAT IIs (gah i’m behind on that!)
PSAT 219 (hopefully NMF)

Extra Curricular:

Band 4 years - Marching Band drum major for 2 years. Top Jazz band senior year. Lettered for last two years.
Debate/forensics - Competed on the Varsity level for sophomore and junior year. 8th at state.
Went to NFL nationals in student Congress.
Member of National Honor society
Founding President of Kansas Young Democrats.
Participated in Boys’ State of Kansas. Qualified to be one of 98 to meet at Boys’ Nation in D.C. later this summer. Bill Clinton went to Boys’ Nation and met (then) President Kennedy. fun stuff
Started an elementary Debate club program.
Will be active volunteering for campaigns this fall.
200+ volunteer hours working at a hospital. received Presidential Service Award.
No sports, unless you count debate.
I am working at a law firm for a paid internship this summer for a few weeks. Besides that, no work experience.

General note:

I love politics. Most of my time is spent reading news/books. Because of this, i can expect excellent rec letters from government and history teachers. I want to major in Poli Sci.

I feel like my interview will be very good. Thanks to debate (yay pretty speaking!), and my passion for what i want to study.

I’ve been on a mission trip to Alabama, too! I can’t speak for the OP, but I went to Bayou la Batre and we helped fix up and paint houses. This was a few years ago, though… just after Katrina.

I think you have a REALLY decent shot at getting in.

IR09-
Are you talking about me?

And if so, do you mean, “really” as in above average, or “really” as in just very decent.

haha sorry about the miscommunication. I tried to capitalize it to show meaning, but I guess it didn’t convey what I wanted it to. I think that you have a really good chance at getting in. Here is a graph:

Definitely In

You

Maybe In
