[] Teacher Recs: Okay-Good
[] Counselor Rec: Crap-Okay
[] Hook (if any): Nope

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New Jersey
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: Male

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments: My school is pretty much bs with only about 100 kids that really care about school. I think they waitlisted my app is cause of my Ebay business that I wrote about.

Decision: Waitlisted CAS

Stats:
SAT: 2210 (800 CR, 610 M, 800 W)
SAT IIs: 800 US History, 720 Bio-M, 760 Lit, 800 World History
GPA: 95.59 uw

Subjective:
Essays: Very good
Teacher Recs: Both were terrific

Hook (if any): Just another white male

Location/Person:
State or Country: Upstate New York
School Type: Minuscule, below average public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: male

Other Factors: Good ECs (or so I thought).... lots of awards/recognition, student body president.

General Comments: Not happy. I thought I had a decent chance here... guess I can forget about JHU, Penn and UVA. Congrats to all those accepted.

Decision: Waitlisted

Stats:
SAT: 2310 (740 CR, 770 M, 800 W)
SAT IIs: 790 math2, 740 us history, 680 physics
GPA: 4.54 w
Rank: 2/350
Other stats: 4's on two AP's. I go to a governor's school that doesn't offer official "AP" classes so those scores dont' show my real strength.

Subjective:
Essays: good
Teacher Recs: real good
Counselor Rec: real good
Hook (if any): White guy, but I went to NASA SHARP, I've done some research related stuff, and I play oboe in two youth symphonies...

Location/Person:
State or Country: middle of nowhere, virginia
School Type: big public, little interest in good schools though
Ethnicity: white
Gender: male

Other Factors: rural area, i've been to three different high schools in 2 different states

General Comments: I showed plenty of interest, mainly becuase my dad was pressuring me to go there. I visited, interviewed, etc. I didn't really want to go there, but this really kills my confidence for any schools next week:/ Did anybody else thing they were a solid for WashU but got waitlisted?

I didn't think I was quite "solid".... but I after I found out a friend from CA got in with a 1980, lower SAT IIs and AP scores of 4, 3, and 2.... I thought hey... why not me?

whoa.. why not me too? lol

Burr's friend probably had something special going for him. People with good, but not outstanding credentials usually have a good hook.

I was accepted with ACT of 35 and class rank of 15/432. But our school's valedictorian was waitlisted with ACT 34, extremely rigorous schedule and good Extra Curriculars (Varsity Baseball and Basketball). This just showed me that it's all a subjective crapshoot.

"it's all a subjective crapshoot."

--perhaps the smartest thing I've ever heard on CC

i was waitlisted with:
ACT: 30 (i know.. not very high)
GPA: 4.0 uw 4.8 w.
Class rank: 2/450
IB diploma candidate
Essay: everyone who read it said it was creative and well written
Recs: wonderful
ECs: good community service, piano since 1st grade: theory competition awards, swimming since 7th: 5 school records, art class and state painting awards, school newspaper editor.
hook: none

problems... prob my act and because the interview wasnt the greatest. the student who interviewed me prob could tell it wasnt my #1 choice. but it still was one of my top choices.

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments: Looking around at everyone elses stats I'm thinking.... I'm not that much worse than any of the rest of you? what did I do wrong? So yea, wash u was my top choice, so I'm pretty disappointed...

oh, stormia, you have stellar stats and that was probably the problem. washu probably thinks you are overqualified.

I feel the same way stormia...I got a 2310 on SATs and I had a 4.0 uw...I have alot of EC's too...but I got waitlisted

WashU wasn't my top choice though, but I was deferred from my top choice...

so hang in there...
