yeah.. i wasn't really planning on going ot washu but now i'm seriously considreing it, but hotpiece, how did u not take sat's and get national merit?? was it just psats?

Yeah.. that doesn't make sense ....

Oh yeah, about my friend with a 29..... he was from the Arkansas Delta and had a pretty kick arse story...so that helped.

collegeboundkorean, i took the SATs, but did much better on my ACT. so i just sent my ACT scores.

and johnny, thanks for the encouraging words, but it's not like being african american gives me that much of an advantage...

what other schools have you applied to and/or heard from, hotpiece?

well, i applied to a lot of other schools:

Miami (Ohio)- accepted
Northwestern- Likely Letter
UIUC- accepted
Harvard
Yale
Columbia
Williams
Pomona
JHU
Princeton
Spelman

cool... i'll be applying to pomona and jhu too. a year from today i'll probably be freaking out over college stuff...

hotpiece, it helps you much more than you might think (or like to think). And I'm not trying to be condescending; I'm just stating the facts.

Besides, you have awsome scores anyways....so that truly helps.

Would a white/asian ever have been accepted to Harvard with a 29? No...

johnny, was that black friend poor?

b/c i don't think my race has that much effect because my family would probably be considered "wealthy."

He was poor. But again, would a poor white/asian person be accepted to Harvard? I go to a magnet school, and there's several poor, white kids with 30+. I have a poor white friend who lives in a trailor....and he is super smart (chem. olympiad, bio., etc.) .....but he has no chance of getting into harvard. He has a 31.

True, your wealth will lessen the effect of AA....

Anyways, this is a bad thread to discuss this.....sorrrry.

Congrats to all.

General Comments:While I'm happy I got an invitation to the Olin Spotlight Weekend at the school, I'm still steamed about not even being a Finalist for the Dean's Business Scholarship. I thought I wrote some nice essays (Guess I was wrong). And since I'm among their "top" applicants according to the letter I got, I'm a little confused about getting no love for the scholarship. Oh well, I'm sure you've had enough of my complaining. Congrats to all who got in and good luck to the rest of you!

Is the Olin Spotlight the "reception in Room 340 in the Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center on the Washington University campus on Sunday, April 23, 2006 from 4:00-6:00 p.m."..... I was invited to that, but I don't know what this spotlight is for all of you guys... anyone?

No, that's not the Spotlight.

I got an e-mail last Thursday about the Spotlight:

"Each student who is being offered admission to Olin's entering class has outstanding credentials. You are among an especially select group with great potential to contribute to making Olin an even better school, and to benefit from the exceptional educational opportunity we offer.

We know how special you are; and we want you to see for yourself how special Olin can be for your undergraduate education. We are delighted to invite you and your parents to the Olin Spotlight Weekend, which is being hosted jointly by the Olin School and the Olin Ambassadors, a group of our most enthusiastic current students, who serve as hosts and tour guides for prospective students considering joining the Olin community.

The dates of the Olin Spotlight Weekend are Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 9. We will pay for each student's round-trip airfare to attend this special weekend and students will be hosted in Washington University's residence halls during their stay on our campus."

Then I got a second e-mail last Friday about the reception:

"Congratulations! Please accept this as an early notification of your admission to Washington University. Later this month you will receive formal notification of your admission from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. You have accomplished a great deal in high school and have much to contribute to the college or university you join.

It is my pleasure to invite you and your parents to a reception in Room 340 in the Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center on the Washington University campus on Sunday, April 23, 2006 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A number of our faculty, staff, and current students will be on hand to welcome you."
